Home In Ellsworth, ME With Flooding Drain Gets Much Needed Waterproofing
Adam and Kate had been having issues with a water drain in their basement. The drain would overflow during heavy rain and start to flood their basement. This was something they wanted fixed ASAP, so they turned to the Yellow Pages for help. After Adam & Kate contacted us, our foreman Bill Niles and his crew got to work. The old drain, which would flood, was dug out of the basement, and replaced with a SuperSump sump pump. This was connected to the outside, through an IceGuard pipe. IceGuard pipes are specially crafted to allow for water to continue to be pumped outside even if the lower end of the drainage pipe is blocked by debris or ice. These new additions are sure to keep Adam and Kate’s home dry, even during intense storms.
A New Home Addition Causing Issues
After putting a new addition onto their home, this Ellsworth, ME, homeowner has had issues with moisture in their crawl space. Not wanting to move on to other home improvement projects without fixing their crawl space, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and scheduled a free estimate. System Design Specialist Mark Smith drove out and met with the homeowner to work with them on designing a crawl space encapsulation system.   First, TC Hafford removed the old plastic from the crawl space and laid down brand-new Drainage Matting. Drainage Matting features dimples that create a gap, allowing any groundwater to be channeled without causing any issues to the crawl space. CleanSpace is then laid on top of the Drainage Matting to create an inorganic barrier between outside elements and the crawl space. Finally, a SmartJack was installed to better support the floor above and remove any bounce the floor had.   Now the crawl space is encapsulated, and because of CleanSpace’s bright white color, light is reflected, resulting in a perfect storage area that is protected from critters, moisture, and any other outside element that could cause issues.
Old Sump Pump Concerning New Homeowner
When it rains, this Ellsworth, ME, home has a problem with water coming in through the floor joints and bulkhead, and an old sump isn’t helping the situation. Worried about damage to their home and wanting a healthier basement, the homeowner scheduled a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. Excited to help, System Design Specialist Craig Ziegenbein met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a waterproofing system that would prevent water from coming in and causing issues for the homeowner.   The old sump pump wasn’t working and needed to be replaced. With the old sump gone, a TripleSafe Sump Pump was installed. The TripleSafe features a powerful Zoeller sump placed at the lowest level with a more powerful Zoeller ½ hp pump set higher to take over during situations with a high level of water. To protect a homeowner in the case of a power outage, a third pump is included. The UltraSump Battery Backup sump pump is set at the highest level and is capable of pumping 11,500 gallons or more on a fully charged battery. To catch water and channel it to the TripleSafe, WaterGuard Perimeter Drain and TrenchDrain were installed where needed. WaterGuard was installed under the slab and channels water to the sump pump and has built-in clean-out ports for easy maintenance to keep the system running at 100%. TrenchDrain was installed in high-traffic areas such as the bulkhead entrance to catch the maximum amount of water possible. The TripleSafe has to pump the water somewhere, so a Buried Discharge Line was installed that takes the water away from the home where it won't be a problem. At the end of the Discharge line, a LawnScape outlet was installed to prevent any critters or debris from coming into the line, keeping it clear and unobstructed. Winter months in Maine can get very cold, so to prevent freezing temperatures from slowing down the system, IceGuard was installed at the base of the Discharge line to prevent ice from building up and ensure the system running at 100% all year round. Finally, to prevent mold growth and damage from high humidity in the basement, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to maintain a consistent and safe humidity level. Unlike most dehumidifiers, the SaniDry Sedona drains directly to the TripleSafe, so the homeowner never has to worry about emptying a bucket and can travel without the concern of humidity-causing issues in their basement.   Now that the homeowner is fully protected from water and their old sump pump is long gone, they are able to enjoy their home without worrying about water causing them issues. Their home is healthier; their basement can now be used properly and without the risk of their belongings being damaged
Waterproofing a Trenton, ME Home
This Trenton, ME, homeowner has lived in their home for nearly a decade, and in the last three years they have had issues with water making it’s way into their basement. They couldn’t store anything on the floor without it being damaged, and wanting peace of mind that their home would be safe, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and booked a free estimate. System Design Specialist Mark Smith worked with the homeowner to design a waterproofing system that would waterproof the basement and allow the homeowner to regain control of their basement. WaterGuard was installed along the perimeter of the basement to catch and channel water to the new SuperSump Plus. The SuperSump Plus takes the water and pumps it out of the basement through an Exterior Buried Discharge line that takes the water far away from the home. The whole system is protected against ice buildup during winter with the installation of IceGuard on the Discharge line. This ensures that the system will always run, preventing flooding when snow melts. To finish out the waterproofing system, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to keep the humidity in the basement at a safe level, preventing musty smells and mold growth. Now the homeowner is happy that they are able to use their basement again without the risk or concern of their belongings and appliances being damaged because of water.
Old Basement Sump In Milford, ME, Replaced With SuperSump
A homeowner in Milford had an old sump pump that just wasn’t getting the job done anymore. Even though it was meant to pump water out of the basement, they were still experiencing water problems. TC Hafford Basement System was on the case! Once on the scene, we removed the old sump pump. Because the rest of the system seemed to be functional still, we only needed to replace the pump. We then installed a SuperSump sump pump. Now this homeowner is experiencing a dry basement, like they always should have!
Powerbrace Secures Howland, ME Basement Wall Against Cave In
Bob from Howland began to notice a problem with his basement wall. The wall was beginning to bow inwards, apparently due to force from the surrounding soil. This was immediately a concern for Bob, because if this kept up, the wall might have collapsed. Recalling he had seen TC Hafford Basement Systems at a home show, Bob called us right away. We had our representative give him his free estimate, and then we got to work! To prevent the wall from caving in, we needed to reinforce it. To do this, we installed Powerbraces along the wall. These are steel I-beams anchored to the cement floor, and attached to the wooden joists in the basement ceiling. The Powerbraces will apply pressure to the wall, potentially realigning it with its original position. After some time has passed, we can even return to tighten the braces, potentially returning the wall to its original position. With the Powerbraces in place, this homeowner no longer needs to fear a cave in. His basement is now secure.
Howland, ME Basement Kept Water-Free with WaterGuard Installation
A homeowner that was living in Howland, ME had recently developed a need to use their basement for storage. However, the basement would typically take on water during any moderate to heavy rainfall. Without any waterproofing to protect their property from the flooding, the homeowner searched online for a solution. They soon discovered us at TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us right away to set up their free estimate. They liked what we could do to solve their problem and hired us to get the job done! When our installation crew arrived at the home, the first order of business was to install a proper concrete floor across the dirt of the existing basement floor. WaterGuard piping was installed in the perimeter of this newly poured concrete slab to further protect the basement from future leakages. Any water that leaks through the concrete slab now will be captured by small slits in the WaterGuard and follow this buried piping to the sump where it will be removed from the home. To handle the water-removal, a SuperSump sump pump was installed in this new basement floor with the WaterGuard feeding into directly it. The SuperSump can force up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Outside the home, the exiting water passes through an IceGuard pipe segment before reaching the end of the line. This special pipe section has built in holes that will only allow trapped water to escape, thus protecting the basement from any blockages like ice causing a backup flood. Finally, the discharge line terminates through a LawnScape piece, which is covered by a grate to keep out debris like leaves. With their new and improved basement floor, this homeowner can now utilize the space for storage without worrying about their belongings becoming wet from flooding. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will ensure this basement floor stays dry for years to come!
Damp Crawlspace In Seal Harbor, ME Kept Dry With CleanSpace
A new homeowner in Seal Harbor was noticing their crawlspace was damp in certain areas and they were looking to get this addressed. Asking around for a solution, a satisfied previous customer told the homeowner about TC Hafford Basement Systems, and how we could help with their issue. They called us soon after and got their free estimate. They decided to get work done and we sent a crew to their home to start the job! We began by installing a SmartDrain in the crawlspace to allow for water to escape through the floor. We then laid down a Drainage Matting around the interior perimeter of the crawlspace to hold back water trying to make its way in and guide it towards the drain. Next, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace Liner. This liner covers the entire crawlspace except for the ceiling, completely locking out moisture, and if any makes its way in, it will be directed to the drain in the floor. Finally, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This will guarantee the air remains dry, should any moisture gather in the air in the crawlspace. Now this homeowner has a dry crawlspace, and it will stay that way for years to come!
Moist Crawlspace In Hancock, ME Sealed Properly With CleanSpace
A homeowner in Hancock noticed a smell coming from their crawlspace. This was a clear sign of mold growth within the crawlspace, caused by a moist atmosphere. Seeking professional help with this problem, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems after seeing us on their television. We gave them their free estimate, then we got to work! To begin work on the crawlspace, we laid a Drainage Matting around the interior perimeter of the crawlspace to hold back water trying to leak in. This water will optimally drain back into the surrounding soil. To completely lock out any of the remaining moisture, the crawlspace was encapsulated with a CleanSpace Liner. This liner is made of a thin plastic that will prevent any water from leaking through. These two layers will maintain a dry atmosphere within the crawlspace, eliminating the mold, and preventing further mold growth. This homeowner can now be sure they’re crawlspace will remain dry and mold free!
Wet Basement In Sullivan, ME Waterproofed Using WaterGuard
A homeowner in Sullivan was having trouble with an extremely wet basement. There seemed to be no way to keep it dry, and they needed help. Soon after they heard about TC Hafford from another satisfied customer, they got in touch. We had a representative head over to the home to inspect the basement, and give a free estimate. Once the homeowner decided on what solution they wanted, we got to work! The first thing that needed to be done was to excavate the interior perimeter of the basement, Once this area was dug up, we installed a WaterGuard pipe system. This is a special kind of pipe that will capture all the water entering in through the walls or up from underneath the basement. This system is then cemented into place with concrete. We then installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The WaterGuard will guide the collected water to this pump, where it will be pushed up and out of the basement. The TripleSafe pump is unique in that it contains three separate pumps. One primary pump, a backup pump in case there is too much water for the first, and a final, battery operated pump to keep the basement dry should the power go out. The water is pumped through PVC up and out of the basement, and once outside, travels through an IceGuard filter we attached. The IceGuard will allow for the water to continue to exit the basement; even if the lower end of the discharge line is blocked by ice or debris. Finally, we installed a SaniDry XP Dehumidifier. This is to maintain a dry atmosphere within the basement should any moisture still find its way into the basement air. Now moisture is the last thing this homeowner needs to be worried about.
