Musty Basement In Ablion, ME, Dried Out The Right Way
A homeowner came to TC Hafford to have their wet basement looked at. Water had been seeping into the basement on a regular basis for 40 years. This never bothered the homeowner too much, until it became a health problem. The moist air in the basement would allow for mold to grow. This mold would not only cause a nasty smell to appear, but would also cause some health concerns for the residents of the house. With moisture in the air being the largest concern for the homeowner, they decided to go with the SaniDry XP Dehumidifier to help solve the problem. The SaniDry XP will take in the moist air surrounding it, dry it out, and push it out into the basement. Cycling other moist air back towards the SaniDry XP to continue the process. This keeps the basement air dry, and maintains it, removing the ideal air conditions for mold to grow. This homeowner no longer needs to worry about their health when it comes time to enter their basement.
Albion, ME Basement Kept Free of Water with WaterGuard Installation
When a couple living in Albion, ME ran into some basement trouble, they were unsure what options they had. Water had been leaking into their basement seemingly right through their concrete foundation. After a short amount of time, they searched online for a solution and found us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. The homeowners called us to receive their free estimate right away. Once they spoke with our representative they hired us to get the job done! As soon as our installation crew arrived at the property, they began work on waterproofing this basement. To keep water from leaking through the floor, a WaterGuard piping system would be buried beneath the perimeter of the floors surface. Once a trench was dug and the pipes were in place, they were sealed in the floor by loose rocks and concrete. Here, the WaterGuard will absorb leaking moisture through slits along its bottom edge. This water is then guided to the SuperSump sump pump we installed in the basement floor. This pump will then force the water up and out of the home without the water ever reaching the floors surface. Outside the home, two attachments were added to the discharge line that carried the water away from the home. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment. This piece, attached just beyond where the line exits the home, has special holes built-in that only allow blocked water to escape. This protects the basement from flooding if ice were to block the discharge line. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was used to cap the end of the line. This piece will blend the end of the port into the lawn while the grate will keep out debris. The less debris in the discharge line, the less chances for blockages to form. Now that this couple has a properly waterproofed basement, they can finally make use of the space without the fear of water damage. The WaterGuard will keep this basement free of water for many years to come!
PowerBrace Installation Secures Bowing Albion, ME Barn Wall
After noticing one of the concrete walls of their barn was beginning to bend inward, this Albion, ME homeowner was worried the wall might cave in if left alone. The homeowner searched online for a solution and soon came across TC Hafford Basement Systems. Once the homeowner spoke with our office staff, our sales representative was dispatched to give the homeowner a free estimate. Soon after the representative explained the available options, the homeowner decided to have us solve their problem as soon as possible. As soon as our installation crew arrived at the property, they got started preparing the bowing wall for correction. Sections of the supports along the top-most edge of the wall were trimmed and fitted with several blocks used to hold the Lever Bracket in place. Next, the PowerBrace supports were cut to the proper length to fit the wall and secured to the base of the wall; with several feet between each beam. The PowerBrace beams were then connected to the Lever Brackets attached to the joists above the wall. This bracket can be adjusted, tightening each PowerBrace against the wall, pulling it back into place over time. The PowerBraces will be adjusted periodically to ensure the wall returns to its original position and remains there. Now a collapsing wall is no longer something this homeowner has to worry about. The PowerBrace beams will maintain this wall well into the future.
Moist Crawlspace in Warren, ME, Encapsulated
A homeowner in Warren had a crawlspace with a sand floor. This was a problem for the homeowner, because water was easily entering the crawlspace, and causing mold to grow. The homeowner took to the internet to find a solution. TC Hafford soon received a call. We took a look at the crawlspace, and got to work! We started by placing down a drainage matting on the floor. This acts as a primary barrier from water, and will allow any water entering the crawlspace to flow back out through the floor. Then the entire crawlspace got encapsulated by our team, using CleanSpace Liner. This liner fits tight against the walls and floor of the crawlspace. It seals out any water trying to sneak into the crawlspace. Now this homeowner no longer needs to worry about water or mold in their crawlspace.
Spruce Head, ME Basement Waterproofed With SmartSump
A homeowner in Spruce Head was experiencing problems with their sump pump. It would back-up during exceptionally heavy rains, and flood parts of the basement. Needing this to stop before any serious water damage occurred, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems. We gave the homeowner their free estimate, and then we got to work on waterproofing their basement. The existing sump pump needed to be removed to start the job. It was no longer needed, because it was being replaced. We then installed a SmartSump sump pump in the sump. This will now pump out all of the water gathering within the basement without issue. Attached to this SmartSump, we installed an UltraSump backup battery in case of a power outage during a rain storm. Finally, on the exterior of the home, we attached an IceGuard filter onto the PVC discharge line coming from the sump. This filter will allow water to flow from the line even if the lower end of the pipe becomes blocked by ice or other debris. Now this homeowner is worry free, with a dry basement!
Cracked Basement Wall in Spruce Head, ME Sealed Properly with FlexiSpan
This Spruce Head, ME homeowner had lately been dealing with water in their basement. The cause of this water build-up was a crack on one of their foundation walls. Unable to keep the water from entering through the crack on their own, the homeowner contacted us at TC Hafford shortly after seeing us on their television. When they heard what we could do for them during their free estimate, they knew right away they wanted to have the work done to keep their basement free of water. Later, when our installation crew arrived at the home, they were tasked with utilizing FlexiSpan to seal this crack. This process begins with the crack being cleared of debris by a coarse brush. This will help our seal stick to the wall. Next, a primary layer of sealant was applied inside and slightly around the crack. A foam mat was then laid along the length of the crack, sticking to the primary sealant layer. Finally, a second sealant layer was applied over the top of the foam, to complete the FlexiSpan seal over this crack. The foam core allows the seal to bend and adjust to slight changes in the cracks shape over time, giving the seal the FlexiSpan name. Now that the crack on their foundation wall has been sealed, this homeowner can rest assured the leaking water will no longer enter their basement! The FlexiSpan seal will keep this basement clear of moisture build-up for years to come.
CleanSpace Liner Protects Spruce Head, ME Crawlspace from Moisture
Without a vapor barrier below their home, this homeowner recently began to notice signs of a moisture problem developing in their crawlspace, such as musty air and damp surfaces. Unsure how to approach the problem on their own, the homeowner looked online to find a solution. They discovered our TC Hafford Basement Systems website and contacted us right away to schedule their free estimate. After they spoke with our sales representative, they liked what we could offer them and hired us to get started as soon as possible. When our installation crew arrived at the home, they got to work right away by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor of the crawlspace. This was the first half of a vapor barrier designed to keep water from building up in the crawlspace. The Drainage Matting rests just off the surface of the floor, where it creates channels below itself that any trapped water can follow to drain from the home. Next, we lined the crawlspace walls and floor with a CleanSpace barrier. The CleanSpace will completely seal the interior of the crawlspace so that any leaking moisture will only be able to flow down through the Drainage Matting and into the ground again. These layers now form a vapor barrier capable of preventing the moisture problems this homeowner wanted to avoid. These improvements will keep the moisture within this space to a minimum, eliminating any chance for the developing issues to worsen. The CleanSpace liner will keep this crawlspace interior water-free for years to come!
Crawlspace In Liberty, ME Waterproofed With A Drainage Mat
A homeowner in Liberty had a crawlspace with a dirt floor. Moisture was entering through this floor easily, and the homeowner wanted to stop this from happening. They soon got into contact with TC Hafford Basement Systems to get their problem solved. We had a representative take a look at the crawlspace; then we got to work! To solve the issue with water easily entering through the dirt floor, we poured a concrete slab to form a new floor for the crawlspace. This won’t guarantee a perfectly dry crawlspace, but it is much better than dirt. On top of this concrete slab, we laid down a Drainage Matting. This will stop moisture that enters through the floor or wall from making its way to the center of the crawlspace. Giving it time to drain back out. Now this homeowner no longer has a dirt floor or a wet crawlspace!

After hearing what we could do for them, the homeowner hired us to help finish this project they had in mind. These footings sit on a layer of engineered fill to avoid setting them on potentially unstable ground. Nest, the SmartJack beams are installed and adjusted to fit against the joists of the crawlspace, creating supports capable of maintaining the desired height the homeowner wants for their crawlspace. These beams can also be adjusted in the future, should the home begin to settle in unevenly. Now that the project this homeowner set out to accomplish has been completed, their crawlspace is much more accessible. These new SmartJack piers will keep this home supported for many years into the future.
