Waterproofing Before a New Slab Floor

This Leeds, ME homeowner was on their wits' end after having their walls and floors ruined because of their basement flooding. They wanted to be able to finish the space and actually use it instead of their basement being an object for nightmares. Exhausted and ready to solve their water intrusion problems, the homeowner booked a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Nick Ciciarelli met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a waterproofing system specifically designed for their home.

Wanting their basement dry all the time, they opted for a full Slab with WaterGuard system to ensure they can finally remodel their basement without the risk of their work being ruined by water. A lot of work goes into prepping the basement for the new system, starting with Drainage Matting being laid down. Drainage Matting creates an inorganic barrier between the new slab and the outside elements while aiding in channeling water to prevent hydrostatic pressure from building up. WaterGuard is installed around the perimeter to capture water and channel it to the new TripleSafe Sump Pump. The TripleSafe Sump Pump is capable of taking all the water and pumping it out of the basement through the new Exterior Buried Discharge Line. The Buried Discharge Line takes the water far from the home where it won’t cause any issues, and with the installed IceGuard, the system is protected against ice build-up, keeping the system running all year, even during freezing winter months. To finish the waterproofing system, the slab will be poured and a SaniDry XP will be installed to keep humidity levels at a safe level. The SaniDry XP drains to the TripleSafe so the homeowner will never have to worry about emptying a bucket of water, and the SaniDry XP can do its job all the time.

Now the homeowner can remodel their basement and be confident that their basement will be dry all the time.

Sealing an Attic with Dr. Energy Saver

Without air sealing an attic, hot air is still able to penetrate loose blown-in insulation, leading to higher energy bills and an uncomfortable home. This Topsham, ME, homeowner wanted to become more energy efficient, so they booked a free estimate with Dr. Energy Saver by TC Hafford Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Nima Farshid met with the homeowner and performed a Blower Door Test that showed room for improvement. Nima worked with the homeowner to design a Dr. Energy Saver system that would make their home more comfortable and energy efficient.

First the old insulation was removed, and the attic was air-sealed where needed with ZypFoam. Any areas that could leak air into the home were filled in and around the chimney. Next, SilverGlo was installed for added protection, and TruSoft Cellulose installation was blown in to reinsulate the area. TruSoft Cellulose is an environmentally friendly product made from recycled materials that are treated for fire resistance. Unlike typical fiberglass insulation that will melt when presented with a flame, TruSoft Cellulose insulation will resist the flame and won’t ignite. Now the homeowner not only has a more energy efficient home, but a more comfortable and safer home thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by TC Hafford Basement Systems.

WaterGuard Installation Protects Phillips, ME Basement from Moisture

Looking for a way to prevent future leakages in their basement, this homeowner called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. We set them up with a free estimate and they soon gave us the go ahead to begin work on their basement. Our installation crew began work on the basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter in order to allow for WaterGuard piping to be buried surrounding the floor. Hidden below a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard will capture any moisture leaking in through the foundation in the future. This water is guided to the TripleSafe sump pump also installed within the floor. The TripleSafe system contains three pumps, two pumps for bulk water removal and one battery-operated pump for when the home is without power. The TripleSafe will force any collected water out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Equipped with IceGuard & LawnScape pipe segments, this discharge line is protected against ice build-up and debris blockages.

Now any moisture entering this basement through the foundation will flow through the WaterGuard piping directly into the TripleSafe pump for removal. This homeowner can now utilize their basement without needing to fear water-damage in the future!

CleanSpace Barrier Protects Bowdoin, ME Crawlspace from Lingering Moisture

Having recently removed some of the insulation below their home due to mold growth from moisture build up, this Bowdoin, ME homeowner was in the market for a proper vapor barrier. They contacted our office at TC Hafford Basement Systems and after they received their free estimate, the homeowner gave us the go-ahead to begin work on solving their moisture problem. As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, their first task was laying a Drainage Matting across the dirt floor of the crawlspace. This mat rests just above the surface of the floor, creating channels for any blocked moisture to funnel toward the natural low point of the crawlspace where it can most easily drain back into the earth. Next, a CleanSpace liner was utilized to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace. This bright white liner will completely lock out moisture leaking into the crawlspace, keeping the space dry while any blocked water flows through the Drainage Matting to exit back into the ground it entered through. This forms a complete vapor barrier to prevent moisture damage and mold from taking root below this home in the future.

This homeowner can now rest assured their crawlspace will remain dry throughout the year, keeping their home safe from water related damages. The CleanSpace barrier will hold back any leaking moisture for many years to come!

Have a Failing Foundation Wall?

Since purchasing the home four years ago, this Bowdoin, ME, homeowner wanted to address the issues with their foundation and prevent it from failing. System Design Specialist Todd Bernard worked with the homeowner to design a system that would reinforce the foundation wall and prevent any damage to the home. After collaborating, Todd created a system using PowerBrace to stabilize the wall. These steel I-beams will hold the wall in its current position without requiring immediate adjustment. Over time, the PowerBrace System can be tightened to straighten bowing or tilting walls. Now, the homeowner can use their basement for storage without worry, and the health of their home is protected.
