Mold and Mildew Leaving Funky Smells in This Basement
This Yarmouth, ME, homeowner had an issue with water getting into their basement and causing issues with mold and mildew that led to a funky smell in the basement. Ready to tackle the issue and make the space comfortable to use again, the homeowner reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for a free estimate. System Design Specialist Ken Castillo met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a waterproofing system that was specific to their home and would address all of their issues at once.   WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement to capture groundwater and channel it to the brand new SuperSump Plus. The WaterGuard is installed under the slab and features Ports for easy maintenance. The SuperSump Plus is capable of taking the water that is channeled to it and pumping it out of the basement through a Buried Discharge Line that is protected from ice buildup with IceGuard. In high-traffic areas such as doorways and appliances, TrenchDrain was installed and connected to the WaterGuard to ensure all water is being channeled to the sump. BrightWall Panels were installed on the walls, which act as a vapor barrier and integrate into the WaterGuard to capture any water seepage from the walls. BrightWall covers the old wall, leaving a bright white finish that helps to reflect light and illuminate the basement more. Finally, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to keep humidity at a safe level and prevent mold and mildew from causing issues for the homeowner. Typically, homeowners have to empty a bucket of water to keep their dehumidifier working, but with the SaniDry Sedona, it drains directly to the SuperSump Plus, meaning the homeowner can travel without worrying about moisture in their basement. Now the basement is revitalized, and the homeowner is protected from moisture and water problems and can use their basement how it’s intended to be used.
Waterproofing a Sumner, ME Crawlspace
A homeowner in Sumner, Maine, reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems due to persistent water issues in both their crawl space and basement. The excess moisture had led to concerns about structural integrity and potential mold growth. Upon inspection, our team found that water seepage was causing significant damage and worsening the air quality in the home. The homeowner’s crawl space was damp and musty, and in need of some serious upgrading. To address the problem, we recommended Dr. Energy Saver spray foam insulation to create an airtight seal, enhancing the crawl space’s energy efficiency and preventing further water intrusion. We also installed the CleanSpace system, a durable water vapor barrier designed to prevent moisture from entering the crawl space. This combination not only controlled the water but also improved the overall energy efficiency of the home, providing the homeowner with long-term peace of mind.
Geo-Lock Wall Anchor Saves Oquossoc, ME Basement Wall From Cave In
A homeowner in Oquossoc had noticed his basement wall was bowing. This was an immediate concern for the homeowner, as he feared it may cave in. He got on his computer and searched for a solution right away. This is where he found TC Hafford Basement Systems. He called us to set up a meeting with our representative, and we inspected the wall to give him his free estimate. After that, we sent in our crew to get started! To begin with the installation of Geo-Lock Wall Anchors, we drilled deep horizontal holes evenly spaced along the wall in a line. We then dug out vertical holes on the lawn outside the wall to meet up with the previously drilled holes. We then inserted long poles in through the horizontal holes, attaching them on both ends to thin metal plates. The second pair of plates are inserted through the vertical holes. These plates are secured parallel to the wall, to use the soil for support and pull on the wall. These can be tightened over time to pull the wall back into its original position. With these anchors in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about a cave in within his basement!
Oquossoc, ME Home Receives Needed Support with PowerBrace Installation
With parts of their concrete basement wall caving inward, this Oquossoc, ME homeowner was looking for a way to hold this wall in place as soon as they could possibly have it done. They called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems after seeing us on their TV and we set them up with a free estimate! After hearing what we could do for them, the homeowner was ready to have us get started on this project. Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work installing PowerBrace supports on this basement wall. To install these, first several holes were drilled along the face of the wall. Next, the eight-foot PowerBrace piers were inserted through these holes and connected to the footings that were buried from the outside. Finally, the interior plates were fastened to the PowerBrace piers and tightened against the wall. These newly installed supports will pull the wall back to its original position soon after installation and can be tightened in the future if necessary. Bending Basement Wall in Pownal, ME Bent Back into Position with PowerBrace Installation
This homeowner, living in Pownal, ME, had a problem beneath their home. One of the walls of their basement had begun to bow inward. This was worrysome as it could lead to a cave-in, if it is left alone. The homeowner was soon referred to TC Hafford Basement Systems and called to ask about repairs. We gave the homeowner a free estimate on what could be done to solve their problem and they hired us right away to get the job done! When our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the forcing the wall back to its original position. This required the use of a PowerBrace system. The PowerBrace is installed by placing several steel I-beams along the face of the bowing basement wall. The base of the PowerBraces are screwed into the foundation of the basement, locked in place against the lower side of the wall. The top of each beam is then secured into the joists in the ceiling of the basement, within an apparatus that allows the top of the beams to be tightened against the wall. These are then tightened over time until the wall is back in the original position, where the beams will keep it locked for the future! Now that the PowerBrack system has been implemented in this homeowners basement, they can rest assured their basement won't suffer any major damage from a potential cave-in.
WaterGuard Installation Saves Pownal, ME Basement from Flooding
Having lived with a wet basement for some time, this Pownal, ME homeowner thought it was time they did something about the problem! Having to mop up any gathering water after rainfall, the homeowner was looking for a way to automate the process. They took to the internet to find a solution and soon discovered TC Hafford Basement Systems. The homeowner called us right away to set up their free estimate and our sales representative was dispatched to take a look at the basement. After hearing their options, the homeowner made their selection and we were able to get started on waterproofing this basement! As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they got started on installing a WaterGuard piping system right away. This system rests just below the surface of the concrete floor, around the outer most edge of the basement. Buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard will now capture the leaking moisture and guide it directly to the SuperSump pump that we installed in the floor where it will be removed from the home through a PVC discharge line. Next, an UltraSump backup battery was installed and connected to the SuperSump to keep it operational even during power-outages in the home. Now during any rainy weather, any leakage will flow from the WaterGuard to the SuperSump and be pumped from the home through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, two additional pieces were attached to better waterproof the basement. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just beyond where the line leaves the home. This piece has special upward facing holes built-in that allow for only trapped water to escape. Now if ice or debris were to clog the line, the water would escape before flooding back into the basement. Finally, the water will exit the end of the line through the grate of a LawnScape discharge port. This grate will hold back debris that would otherwise easily block up the discharge line while allowing the water to easily flow out onto the ground to drain away harmlessly. Now that this homeowner has a fully functional waterproofing system in place, they can be at ease during any rainfall knowing they won’t need to manually remove the water. The WaterGuard & SuperSump will operate in tandem to keep this basement completely water-free!
Temporary Sump In Mexico, ME Replaced With Permanent Solution
A homeowner in Mexico, Maine had been having trouble with water gathering in their basement for years. They set up their own temporary sump, but it wasn’t quite enough. Requiring a permanent solution, the homeowner got online to search for the answer. This is where they found TC Hafford Basement Systems, who they called right away to set up a meeting. We had our representative head to the home to give them their free estimate, and then our crew got to work! We began by digging a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This trench allowed us to lay down our WaterGurd pipe system. This system will capture all water trying to enter the basement through the walls or floor via a phenomenon known as hydrostatic pressure. The WaterGuard is covered over with loose rocks and cement to hide it beneath the floor without hindering functionality. The water collected in the pipes is then guided to the sump, where we installed a SuperSump sump pump. Capable of moving 2,650 gallons of water per hour, the SuperSump will be more than enough to keep this basement dry! The water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line. On the exterior of the home, we attached a special IceGuard piece to the discharge line. This IceGuard will allow the water to exit the pipe, should the lower end become clogged by any sort of debris. With these three systems working together, this homeowner will never need to worry about water gathering in their basement again!
Flooding Basement In Peru, ME Kept Dry With WaterGuard
A couple in Peru was having trouble with a flooding basement. Their basement would regularly gather up to three inches of water on the floor. Looking for a way to seal out any moisture, the homeowners visited a home show in Bangor. This is where they found TC Hafford Basement Systems, and they knew we could assist them with all their basement troubles. They set up a meeting and we got to work on the home! To start on the basement, we dug out the interior perimeter of the floor. This enabled us to lay our WaterGuard pipe system under the floor. It was then covered with loose rocks and cement to conceal it without hindering functionality. The WaterGuard pipes are designed in such a way where they collect all the water trying to press up through the foundation. The water is guided to the sump within the basement, where we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump was given an UltraSump backup battery to keep it running in any condition. The water pumped out by the SuperSump traveled through an IceGuard piece of pipe we attached on the exterior of the home. The IceGuard would allow water to flow normally, while in the event of the pipe clogging, allowed the water to exit the sides of the pipe. With this waterproofing in place, a flooding basement was a thing of the past for this couple!
WaterGuard Installation Protects Buckfield, ME Basement from Flooding
A homeowner living in Buckfield, ME had been experiencing trouble keeping water out of their basement. During heavy rainfall, water would leak into this basement directly through the cocnrete foundation. Unable to stop this leakage on their own, the homeowner was soon referred to TC Hafford Basement Systems by a family member. After they received their free estimate, they gave us the go-ahead to begin work on waterproofing their basement! Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they started by implementing WaterGuard piping. This began with a shallow trench being excavated into the perimeter of the concrete floor. The WaterGuard pipes were then laid down around the basement. These pipes were buried using loose rocks and concrete to conceal them within the floro without hindering their function. Now any rainwater entering through the concrete will be trapped within small holes along the bottom of the WaterGuard piping and guided directly to the sump where we installed a SuperSump pump. The SuperSump will force this collected water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Outside the home, our crew made two additions to the discharge line before this job was complete. An IceGuard pipe segment was attached just beyond where the line leaves the home. This section of piping has special holes buil into the sides that only allow water traveling against the usual flow to escape. This will prevent ice from blocking the line and causing a backup. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was attached to the end of the line. This piece allows the pipe to seamlessly exit onto the lawn, a distance from the home. This homeowner can now utilize their newly waterproofed basement without worrying about flooding casuing any problems in the future! The WaterGuard piping and SuperSump pump will keep this basement floor water-free for years to come.
