Flooding Long Island, ME Basement Dried & Protected with WaterGuard Piping
A homeowner that lived in Long Island, ME had recently began to have trouble with water collecting on their concrete basement floor. The water seemed to be leaking in through the foundation below the home, leaving the homeowner unsure how to put an end to the problem. After a search online, they called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems to see if we could help solve their problem. We set them up with a free estimate and went over their options with them. They soon gave us the green light to begin work on waterproofing their flooding basement.
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they got started on the floor of the basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the floor. This allowed for WaterGuard piping to be laid down within the floor, surrounding the space. The pipes each have slits along their bottom edges. Buried beneath a layer of loose rocks and concrete, the WaterGuard within the floor will capture any leaking moisture in the future and guide it through the floor to the sump.
To handle the removal of the water from the basement, our crew installed a SuperSump pump in the basement floor with the WaterGuard pipes feeding directly into it. The SuperSump can remove water from the home at a rate of 2,650 gallons of water every hour, plenty of power to keep any rainwater at bay. Nearby, an UltraSump backup battery was installed and connected to the SuperSump. This battery will enable the SuperSump to continue to force water out of the home even if a storm knocks out the power in the home. This device will then charge after power is returned. The water leaves the home through a PVC discharge line.
Outside, two additions were made to this discharge line to better protect this home from potential water problems. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment placed just beyond where the line exits the side of the home. This pipe has upward facing holes that will stop water trapped in the line by ice or debris from reaching back into the interior of the basement. Lastly, the end of the line was capped with a LawnScape discharge port. This piece has a grate over the end, allowing the water leaving the home to flow freely while holding back debris that might otherwise clog the line.
Now that this homeowner has properly installed basement waterproofing, they can use their basement without the need to fear possible water damage. The WaterGuard & SuperSump system will ensure this basement floor remains dry for years to come!
