Moving Wall and Wet Basement Causing Problems for Homeowner

A moving wall was creating problems for this Bridgton, ME, homeowner, leading to an unstable foundation and water in their basement. Wanting to get ahead of the issue before springtime when the water is worse, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems for a free estimate. System Design Specialist Sam Crowley met with the homeowner, and together they designed a waterproofing and foundation repair system that would meet the needs of the home and protect their family.

When a foundation begins to move or break down, the home would have to be lifted and a new foundation poured in its place. With StableLock Wall System, the homeowner never has to leave the comfort of their home. StableLock is a quicker and more cost-effective solution to a failing foundation using modern shoring and forming methods. StableLock fills the voids of the failing wall, stabilizing it and leaving a new, smooth wall in its place. To catch groundwater and keep the basement dry, WaterGuard was installed where needed to channel water to the new TripleSafe Sump Pump. The TripleSafe sump pump features two Zoeller pumps with an included battery-powered backup pump. The battery backup pump comes on in the event of a power outage, keeping the homeowner protected from water coming into their basement and causing issues. The TripleSafe takes the water and pumps it out through the new Exterior Buried Discharge line. The Discharge line takes the water far from the home, and with the installed IceGuard, the system is protected against ice buildup, and the system runs all year without issue. To finish the waterproofing system, the homeowner opted to have a SaniDry Sedona installed to keep the humidity in their basement at a safe level. Now the homeowner is able to enjoy their basement and use it for storage without the risk of their belongings being damaged.

Dirt Crawl Space Needs Encapsulation in Bridgton, Maine

We recently helped Bridgton, Maine homeowners encapsulate their damp crawl space with dirt floors. They were experiencing high moisture and wanted to avoid any damage to the structure of the home. We installed drainage matting along with CleanSpace vapor barrier liner. CleanSpace seals out moisture, and also helps prevent mold growth in the crawl space. We added a TripleSafe sump pump to remove ground water away from the home. TripleSafe sump systems have three pumps, one of which operates on a battery back up in the event of power loss. A SaniDry Sedona high efficiency air system was also installed, which both filters the air and controls humidity in the crawl space.

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Oquossoc, Maine

Homeowners in Oquossoc, Maine previously had a thin plastic layer installed in their crawl space to attempt to offer moisture protection. They found during heavy rains that water was coming in and getting very close to their electrical and septic systems. They contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems for help properly encapsulating the crawl space. We installed our two-step encapsulation system, consisting of drainage matting and CleanSpace vapor barrier. Drainage matting controls the groundwater flow, while the CleanSpace liner is installed above to seal moisture out of the crawl space. CleanSpace is made of an inorganic material, which also helps prevent mold growth.

Insulating & Encapsulating a Portsmouth, NH Crawl Space

We recently helped homeowners in Portsmouth, NH with their failing crawl space. Their old sump pump no longer worked, the fiberglass insulation was damp and sagging away from the home, and the dirt floors were allowing moisture to come in. We encapsulated the space with drainage matting and CleanSpace vapor barrier, sealing out water. A SmartSump pump with UltraSump battery back up was installed to ensure they never had sump pump issues again. Spray Foam insulation was installed on the walls and rim joists to create an air tight seal, providing immediate energy savings for the homeowners.

Fresh New Slab in Waterboro, ME

This Waterboro, ME, homeowner had been dealing with water coming up through their old slab, leaving puddles and ruining their belongings. The homeowner had no intuition of moving to a new home and wanted to keep their forever home in a safe condition. Ready to use their basement as it was intended, so they booked a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. The homeowner wanted to keep their basement dry all of the time, so they worked with System Design Specialist Brian Donnelly to design a system that would take care of all the waterproofing issues at once.

Prepping The Area

The first step in prepping the area for the new slab includes laying down Drainage Matting to create an inorganic barrier for the new slab to be poured on and protected. WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter where needed to capture and channel ground water to the new TripleSafe Sump Pump. The TripleSafe features two Zoeller sumps and a battery-powered backup sump that protects the homeowner during a heavy rain event and power outage. The TripleSafe drains through an Exterior Buried Discharge line that takes the water away from the home. Maine gets cold in the winter, making it important to build a system that will work year-round, so IceGuard was installed on the Discharge line to prevent ice from building up and causing issues.

The New Slab

Now that the area was fully prepped, the brand new slab was poured. The homeowner is now able to use their basement as they want to, without the worry of water damaging their belongings or appliances. The new slab is crack-free, and the basement can be finished if the homeowner decides to.
