Insulation and Energy Efficiency Upgrade in Kennebunkport, Maine

A homeowner in Kennebunkport, Maine, reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems after an energy audit revealed that their home was losing significant heat through both the attic and basement. We installed Dr. Energy Saver spray foam in both areas, TrueSoft cellulose to insulate the attic floor, and Zip Foam for air sealing. The improvements resulted in a much more comfortable and energy-efficient home.

CleanSpace Encapsulation Protects Kennebunkport, ME Crawlspace from the Elements

Shortly after acquiring their new home in Kennebunkport, this homeowner needed a way to better protect their crawlspace from the often-damp surroundings. Our industry leading team at TC Hafford Basement Systems was able to provide the permanent solution this homeowner was looking for! Our crew was able to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace using a CleanSpace liner to keep out the unwanted moisture and brighten up the space. To capture moisture from the air and floor to remove it from the space, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed and connected to a SuperSump pump placed in the floor. This will eliminate the humidity in the crawlspace and keep the air dry in the future; all while pumping any collected moisture from the home through a discharge pipe.

Now this Kennebunkport, ME crawlspace has been transformed into a usable space for the new homeowner. The CleanSpace liner alongside the SaniDry & SuperSump systems will keep this crawlspace perfectly dry for many years to come!

Fixing Sagging Floors with SmartJacks

Since 1967, this Arundel, ME, homeowner has lived in their home, and over time they have noticed their floors sagging more and more. With braces rotting and not wanting the problem to get worse, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to book a free estimate. System Design Specialist John Wright met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a system that would meet the needs of the home and keep the homeowner safe.

The floor above needed to be braced and supported to level the floor and prevent sagging from happening in the future. SmartJacks were installed where needed with the addition of a new Supplemental Beam. SmartJacks can correct problems such as sloping and overly springy floors and out-of-level door frames. Because of the design of SmartJacks, they can be adjusted overtime as needed to compensate for changes in the home. SmartJacks are galvanized for corrosion resistance and can be used with the CleanSpace system if an area is plagued with high moisture or water issues. Now that the SmartJacks are installed, the homeowner is able to have a level floor without it feeling like a trampoline, and their home is no longer at risk of wall cracks or unsafe living conditions.

You Can't Have a Pond in Your Bedroom

This Steep Falls homeowner wanted to finish their basement but faced a dilemma: when it rained, water would enter the basement leading to mold growth and damaged items. With a budget in mind, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and met with System Design Specialist Sam Crowley. Together they sat down and created a system that met the needs of the homeowner and would protect the home so they could finally finish the space. WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement that will channel the water to a TripleSafe Sump Pump. The water must go somewhere so the TripleSafe is connected to an exterior Discharge Line that is buried so it is out of sight and out of mind. Now the homeowner can remodel their basement and enjoy the space without concern.

Old Drain in Bridgton, ME Basement Upgraded with SuperSump Installation

When the 55-year-old drain in their basement clogged up and would not function anymore, this Bridgton, ME homeowner called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. After speaking with our sales representative and reviewing their options during a free estimate, they gave us the green light to begin work on resolving their sump problem. When our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. This allowed enough room for WaterGuard piping to be laid surrounding the basement. Buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard pipes within the floor will capture any moisture leaking into the basement through the pores in the concrete in the future. The water is then guided through the piping to the sump where we installed a SuperSump pump. This new pump is capable of removing over 2,600 gallons of water from the home every hour. The water is pumped outside the home through a PVC discharge line where it passes through IceGuard & LawnScape sections before being released onto the lawn. These two additional pipe sections provide protection against blockages in the line and debris that might cause future clogs.

With a revamped waterproofing system in place, this homeowner’s wet basement problem is now a thing of the past. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will ensure this basement remains dry for years to come!
