Wet Kenduskeag, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With CleanSpace
Challenge
A crawlspace underneath a home in Kenduskeag, ME would regularly take on water after any rainfall. This water was causing problems for the homeowner, such as mold growth and a musty smell within the home. Tired of these conditions, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the problem taken care of.
Solution
After arriving at the home, the crew began work on the crawlspace right away. With nowhere to go, the water coming into the crawlspace would pool up and sit until it evaporates or drains away. To allow the water a way out, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This will take in the water and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The water exiting through this line passes through an IceGuard pipe section outside the home. This segment has holes built into it which will allow trapped water a way to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if the line becomes clogged for any reason.
Next, because the space was entirely dirt, it was going to need a barrier to help keep the atmosphere free of moisture. This would eliminate the smell. To achieve this, we encapsulated the space with a thin sheet of plastic known as a CleanSpace liner. This liner covers all of the dirt surfaces within the space, sealing the interior off from any invading moisture. This will ensure the atmosphere remains dry, while any water beneath the liner drains away through the SuperSump sump pump.
These products working in tandem will ensure the crawlspace remains dry for the future. Now the problems this homeowner was experiencing are a thing of the past!
