CleanSpace Saves Millinocket, ME Crawlspace From Water Damage

Challenge

A homeowner in Millinocket, ME had a crawlspace which would take on water after any rainfall. This was a problem for the homeowner, because this accumulating water could lead to property damage or mold growth. Seeking waterproofing, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Upon arrival at the home, our crew began by grading the floor of the crawlspace. This leveled the surface out and removed some debris. With the debris moved, we installed a SmartSump sump pump in the floor of the space. This would give the water an exit point from the crawlspace, instead of the water just pooling up and sitting within the space. The water entering the sump is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water a safe distance from the home before releasing it onto the ground to drain away.

Now that the water has a way out, we began work on installing a vapor barrier. This barrier will keep moisture from reaching the interior of the space, and causing damage to the property. To start, we laid a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will hold moisture beneath itself, while leaving room for the water to continue to flow. This allows the water to drain away into the sump. We finished this crawlspace by encapsulating it with a CleanSpace liner. This liner is made of plastic, and does not allow moisture to pass through at all. This will lock out moisture, keeping the interior of the crawlspace dry and healthy.

This new vapor barrier, coupled with the SmartSump is sure to maintain a dry space beneath this Millinocket, ME home. This homeowner will no longer need to worry about any water damage to the property.
