Crawlspace in East Machias, ME Sealed With CleanSpace

Challenge

A homeowner in East Machias, ME owned a particularly moist crawlspace. With a musty smell emanating throughout the home, the homeowner decided it was time to do something about the space. To get the job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

As soon as our crew arrived at the home, they began work immediately by re-grading the dirt floor. This leveled the space out while also removing some excess debris. Having a level surface would greatly assist in the installation of the other products. After this was done, we installed a SmartDrain in the floor. This drain would allow any standing water a way out of the crawlspace. This exiting water will be guided away from the home through a discharge line.

With a proper exit point for the moisture, it was now time to install a vapor barrier to prevent this moisture from escaping the drain into the air within the space and continuing the problem. We began this process by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor of the crawlspace. This mat holds any water beneath it, while allowing the water enough space to still travel across the floor. This keeps moisture out of the air while allowing the water to drain away through the SmartDrain. To finish this vapor barrier, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace liner is a plastic sheet which covers all of the walls, as well as the floor. This completely locks moisture out of the interior atmosphere, maintaining a dry, healthy crawlspace for this homeowner.

With an exit point and a vapor barrier in place, moisture should no longer cause any problems within this crawlspace. This homeowner will no longer need to suffer from a musty smell.
