Dirt Port Clyde, ME Crawlspace Protected With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in Port Clyde, ME was living with crawlspace. Their crawlspace would usually be wet after any amount of rainfall. Due to the dirt floor, water could enter easily. To put an end to this moisture collection, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
We arrived at the home and immediately began to work on the crawlspace. Our first order of business was giving the water collecting on the floor an exit. Where the majority of the water would collect, at the natural low-point of the floor, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will handle the removal of any water entering the space, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. We then laid a Drainage Matting across the floor to begin the installation of a vapor barrier. The Drainage Matting will allow water beneath it to flow and exit the space, but prevent it from reaching the air.
This space desperately needed a vapor barrier to help reduce the moisture collecting in the air. We ensured this by encapsulating the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. Moisture gathering in the air will almost always lead to mold growth. This liner completes the vapor barrier, and will hold back moisture and keep it from reaching the crawlspace atmosphere. We finished this crawlspace by installing a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. The SaniDry pulls in the moist air existing in the space, and removes the water from it. The water is then passed on to the sump for removal while the dry air is circulated back into the space. This creates a pressure which pulls more moist air back to the SaniDry until the space is completely moisture free. This eliminates the potential for mold growth and any smell emanating from the space.
Now that this homeowner has a proper vapor barrier in place, moisture should no longer gather in their crawlspace. With a dry space, no future problems will arise, such as mold growth or a musty smell.
