Wet Crawlspace In Ocean Park, ME Sealed With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in Ocean Park, ME had been living with a musty smell which permeated throughout their home. Knowing this smell was being caused by their damp crawlspace, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to put an end to the smell.
Solution
To start the work on this crawlspace, we needed to give any standing water a way out. We installed a SmartSump sump pump to achieve this. The SmartSump takes in water from the floor, and forces it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Next, we began the installation of a proper vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat holds water beneath itself, preventing any water on the floor from reaching the air. The water is still able to flow, meaning it will still drain away through the ground or the sump.
We then finished the vapor barrier with a CleanSpace liner. This liner encapsulates the crawlspace, meaning it covers all of the walls as well as the floor. CleanSpace is a thin plastic sheet which completely locks out moisture trying to reach the atmosphere within the space. This will keep the air from collecting more moisture from the surrounding soil. Finally, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to handle the airborne moisture. The SaniDry takes in the air surrounding itself, pulling out the moisture and passing it to the sump for removal. The dried air is then circulated back into the crawlspace to continue the cycle.
Now that this crawlspace has received a proper vapor barrier and a dehumidifier, the smell which bothered this homeowner should be gone in no-time! Moisture won’t be bothering this crawlspace again.
