Crawlspace Waterproofed With CleanSpace In Pemaquid, ME
Challenge
Walter had been living in a home with a wet crawlspace. This wasn’t a problem until the smell started to spread up into the home. This needed to be stopped as soon as possible. To get the job done, he called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, they started by digging out a sump in the natural low point of the crawlspace. The water in the crawlspace was going to need a way to drain away. We then installed a SmartSump sump pump in the hole, which would take in the water and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Next, we began the installation of a vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will hold the moisture beneath it on the floor, giving it time to either drain back into the soil or flow into the sump for removal.
Next, to finish the vapor barrier, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace is composed of plastic, which water cannot pass through. This locks out any moisture trying to enter through the walls or floor, leaving the moisture for the sump to remove it. Now that no more moisture would be gathering inside the crawlspace, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to keep the atmosphere moisture-free as well. The SaniDry pulls in the surrounding air, removing any water from it and outputting the dry air. The water is passed on to the sump for removal, and the dry air causes more moist air to be cycled back to the SaniDry to continue to process.
This new waterproofing system will keep Walters’ crawlspace dry for years to come. No more will Walter need to put up with a musty smell when inside or near the entrance of the crawlspace.
