CleanSpace Seals Wiscasset, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A wet crawlspace is a constant disturbance for any homeowner. Potential mold growth can be a health risk, and the smell can be exceptionally bad. To rid their crawlspace of moisture, this homeowner in Wiscasset, ME called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The crawlspace had no method of water removal in place, so to begin, we needed to install such a device. We then installed a SmartSump sump pump to take care of any built of water. We also were asked to take the moisture out of the air, which using our SaniDry CX, is exactly what we did. The SaniDry takes the moisture from the air, and passes it to the sump for removal. This will maintain a dry atmosphere within the crawlspace.
The crawlspace also had no vapor barrier in place to keep moisture out. To give this space a proper vapor barrier, we laid a Drainage Matting on the floor of the crawlspace. The Drainage Matting holds back moisture gathering on the floor, giving it time to drain away, without allowing it to reach the surface of the floor. The crawlspace was then encapsulated by a CleanSpace Liner. This liner is a sheet of plastic which seals off the interior of the space from would be moisture intrusion. The water held back by the CleanSpace then either drains away or flows to the sump for removal.
With a proper vapor barrier and a water removal system in place, this crawlspace will no longer be a popular zone for mold growth. This crawlspace should remain dry for many years to come.
