CleanSpace Protects Turner, ME Basement From Future Water Problems
Challenge
A wet crawlspace can have more of an effect on a home other than just a bad smell. Mold growth can lead to health concerns for the occupants. For this Turner, ME homeowner, stopping the issue before it became a serious problem was a top priority. They contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems, and we were on the job!
Solution
To waterproof this crawlspace, we needed to lay a proper vapor barrier within the space. To begin, we laid our Drainage Matting around the inside perimeter of the crawlspace, along the wall/floor joint. This mat will hold back some moisture, allowing it time to drain back into the ground. We then installed a SmartSump sump pump in the floor to force any gathered moisture out of the home. A CleanSpace Liner was then used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This plastic sheet covers every surface, except for the ceiling, locking out any and all moisture trying to enter the atmosphere in the space.
The SmartSump forces the water out through a PVC discharge line, which also servers an important role in keeping this crawlspace water free. Just as the piping exits the home, we attached an IceGurad pipe piece. This special pipe piece is built with holes to allow easy escape for any water trapped inside. If the lower end of the pipe became blocked by ice, or some debris, the IceGuard is there to relieve the water and prevent an overflow in the sump. The line was then capped with a LawnScape discharge point, where the water is let out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
This homeowner will now not need to worry about any moisture problems developing within their crawlspace. Thanks to their CleanSpace encapsulation, any would-be leaks would be thwarted before reaching the crawlspace interior.
