CleanSpace & SmartSump Revitalize Wells, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
John of Wells, ME was dissatisfied with his current crawlspace. The space would take on water after nearly every rain fall. Needing a professional hand to help with the waterproofing, John called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
To help keep the crawlspace water-free, we dug out a sump in the floor. This is a hole where the water will naturally flow into. We then installed a SmartSump sump pump to take the water and remove it from the crawlspace. To keep this pump operating even when the home is without power, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. The water being pumped out follows a PVC discharge line. On the exterior of the home, to keep the water from backing up and overflowing the sump we attached an IceGuard pipe piece. This is designed with holes to allow any blocked water to escape.
Now we needed to add a vapor barrier to prevent the moisture from potentially building up on surfaces around the space. We encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This is a thin sheet of plastic which covers every surface except for the ceiling. We then installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to take any moisture out of the air. This will help maintain a dry atmosphere within the space.
With these systems installed and working together, John will never again experience a wet crawlspace. His new, dry crawlspace is something he can be proud of!
