Bradford, ME - CleanSpace & SmartSump Installation

Challenge

A damp and smelly crawlspace belonged to this homeowner in Bradford, ME. Living with this crawlspace for too long had finally urged this homeowner to have something done about it. Luckily, TC Hafford Basement Systems has just the thing to keep any crawlspace dry and pleasant!

Solution

There were a few things that needed to be done to solve the moisture problem within this crawlspace. For starters, we installed a SmartSump sump pump in the floor. This will take pooled up water and push it out of the space through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to it. This piece is designed with holes to allow water to escape in the event of a blockage lower in the pipe. The discharge line is capped off with a LawnScape discharge point where the water is released into the soil a safe distance from the home.

We then needed to lay a proper vapor barrier around the crawlspace. To begin this process, we encircled the crawlspace with a Drainage Matting. This mat rests along the wall/floor joint, and holds back some of the water leaking through that area. This water is then sometimes able to drain away back into the soil. Finally, we encapsulated the entire crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. The liner is made of a thin plastic, which completely locks moisture outside the crawlspace interior.

Now any water trying to enter will be held back by the vapor barrier or pumped away by the SmartSump. This homeowner’s days of a damp crawlspace are now behind them!
