Cape Neddick, ME - CleanSpace & SmartSump Installation
Challenge
A wet crawlspace plagued this homeowner in Cape Neddick. But after living with it for far too long, he had something done to fix it!
The moisture gathering in this crawlspace had gotten to the point where mold was beginning to become a problem. Mold growth can be extremely bad for any homeowner, the spores are able to become airborne, causing potential illness to the inhabitants. One way to stop this is to make sure the basement remains dry!
Solution
We started by installing a SmartSump sump pump in the floor of the crawlspace, where the water would gather. This would take in the water and force it up and out of the crawlspace through a PVC discharge line. On this line, we attached an IceGuard filter. This is a special pipe piece on the exterior of the home through which water can escape in the event of a blockage in the pipe.
Finally, we moved on to the installing of the vapor barrier. We began this process by laying down our Drainage Matting. This matting lines the insider perimeter of the crawlspace, along where the wall meets the floor. Any water entering around this point is held by the matting, and allowed to drain away back into the floor. The crawlspace was then encapsulated by our CleanSpace liner. CleanSpace is a thing plastic sheet, covering everything but the ceiling. This locks out any moisture that would have previously found its way into the atmosphere of the crawlspace.
Now with a sump pump and a vapor barrier, this homeowner’s moisture problem is a thing of the past! The mold should soon die off without any moisture to survive on.
