Cold Floors and Moldy Smells Be Gone!

Cold Floors and Moldy Smells Be Gone!

Cold Floors and Moldy Smells Be Gone! Cold Floors and Moldy Smells Be Gone!

Open crawlspaces lead to the elements coming in and wrecking the health of a home leading to mold and cold floors. In worse cases, wood can begin to rot, leading to thousands and thousands of dollars in repair. Moldy crawlspaces can affect not only the health of the home but those living in the home as well. This Bartlett, NH homeowner was worried about the health of their family and wanted to take care of their Crawlspace as soon as possible, making sure the air they are breathing is fresh and clean.

System Design Specialist Sam Crowley met with the homeowner and put together a list of their goals, and together they designed a crawlspace system that would accomplish their goals. The system started with CleanSpace and drainage matting with Spray Foam on the rim joists. To make sure water wouldn’t be a problem, they put in a TripleCrawl Sump Pump System that is connected to an exterior, buried Discharge Line that takes the water way from the home. Mold was an issue in this crawlspace, so Sam and the homeowner opted to put in a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier. This ensures that humidity never gets to a point where mold will grow. Together they built this system and ensured the health of the home for the future.

Job Stories From Carroll County, NH
Homeowner in Wolfeboro, NH, Upgrades Basement Windows

In Wolfeboro, Deborah needed new windows in her basement. The old windows just weren’t cutting it anymore, and were allowing water to slip into the basement. After finding TC Hafford online, Deborah contacted us to get a free estimate for the window replacement, as well as waterproofing her basement. After Deborah decided to both replace the windows and waterproof the basement, TC Hafford got to work.

The three old windows were removed from the basement, and three EverLast windows were inserted into the old ports. Two of these three new windows received a SunHouse window guard. This is a structure that is attached to the exterior of the window, to keep water and debris away from the window, while still allowing sunlight to enter the basement. TC Hafford then dug up the perimeter of the basement floor, and installed a WaterGuard system, as well as a TripleSafe sump pump. The WaterGuard system is a special pipe that will capture water entering the basement, and guide it to the sump pump. The TripleSafe sump is fitted with three different pumps, to guarantee a dry basement. These new installations have given Deborah peace of mind when it comes to her basement.

Sealed Crack in Ossipee, NH, Basement

A homeowner in Ossipee noticed a crack forming in the wall of their basement. Water wasn’t flowing in through this crack yet, but they wanted it fixed nonetheless. A quick google search later and TC Hafford got the call! We got to work by filling the crack with sealant. This is the first layer of the FlexiSpan that will be used to repair the crack. The second layer is a foam pad that acts as the main structure for the crack repair. Finally the foam is covered with another layer of sealant. This will completely lock out any water, and allow the FlexiSpan to shift with any shifts in the wall; maintaining the integrity of the seal.

Moisture Dealt With Properly in a Sanbornville, NH Home

A homeowner in Sanbornville was having problems with water gathering in their basement. It wasn’t a lot of water, roughly 1/16 of an inch, but water nonetheless. The homeowner needed a way to fix this problem, so they got online and searched for the solution. TC Hafford was that solution. We sent a representative to talk with the homeowner about options for how to fix the basement, and they decided to go with ThermalDry Flooring. This is a special interlocking floor tile that adds two layers between you and your concrete basement floor. This will help keep water out of the basement, as well as not show any signs of the moisture on the surface of the new floor. This homeowner now doesn’t need to worry about a wet basement floor.

East Wakefield, NH, Basement Sealed With FlexiSpan

Dana from East Wakefield was having a problem with a couple of cracks that had formed in his basement. These two cracks would leak water into the basement during any heavy rain, and Dana needed something to be done about this. He searched the internet for a solution, and found it; TC Hafford Basement Systems. He contacted us immediately, and we sent a representative to give a free estimate of what could be done, and how much it would cost. After discussing options, the homeowner made his decision and we got to work.

We stated the process of fixing the cracks by filling each crack with a sealant. This sealant is the first step of three for the installation of FlexiSpan. Secondly, we cover this sealant with a foam pad, this pad covers the crack completely and helps prevent water from leaking in around the first layer of sealant. Finally, the foam is covered over with a layer of sealant. This sealant holds it all in place, and acts as a final line of defense against water. The way FlexiSpan is structured allows for it to shift, should the wall around the crack alter at all; hence the name, FlexiSpan. Now this homeowner no longer needs to worry about water entering through these two cracks, they have been completely sealed off from outside moisture.

Leaking Crawlspace In East Wakefield, ME Sealed With CleanSpace

A homeowner in East Wakefield had a problem with their crawlspace. Every time it would rain, the crawlspace would flood, and this created the perfect atmosphere for mold to grow. Mold growth in the crawlspace is not only unsightly, but the spores could reach the interior of the home and cause health issues for the homeowner. Needing a way to not only prevent the mold growth, but to also waterproof their crawlspace, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems shortly after seeing us on their television. We inspected the crawlspace, gave the homeowner their free estimate, and we got to work.

We began by installing a SmartDrain in the floor of the crawlspace. This way any water gathering there would drain out. Next, we covered the wall/floor joint of the crawlspace with a Drainage Matting. This mat will hold back moisture and allow it time to drain either back through the soil or into the SmartDrain. We then encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpacec Liner. This covers the entire crawlspace except for the ceiling, completely locking out the moisture trying to enter. Finally, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This will remove any remaining moisture in the air, as well as maintaining a dry, healthy atmosphere within the crawlspace in the future that is uninhabitable for mold. Now this homeowner has a dry, mold free crawlspace that will remain that way for many years.

WaterGuard Installation Keeps Sanbornville, NH Basement Water-Free

Owning a basement that would regularly flood with rainwater wasn't something this homeowner planned for. Without a way to properly keep the water from leaking in through their foundation, this homeowner was looking for professional help when they saw TC Hafford Basement Systems on their TV. They gave us a call shorlty after to see what we could do to help their problem. They reveived their free estimate and decided to have the work done by us.

As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on waterproofing this foundation. To keep water out, WaterGuard piping was buried into the perimeter of the concrete basement floor. Once covered with a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard will now take in any leaking moisture before it reaches the surface. This water is guided through the pipes to the sump where a SuperSump pump was installed. This device pumps at a rate of over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which is plenty of power to keep this basement floor dry.

The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. Outside the home, we made two additions to this line before this job was complete. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just as the line leaves the home. This piece has special holes that only allow water traveling up the pipe to escape. This will protect the basement against ice in the line that would otherwise cause a backup. Finally, the end of the discharge line was capped with a LawnScape port. This piece has a wide grate over the end to allow the water to flow while preventing most debris from entering the line.

These new improvements to their basement will keep this homeowner from having to deal with flooding. The WaterGuard will remove the problem before it even reaches the surface of the floor.

Sanbornville, NH Basement Waterproofed with TripleSafe Installation

A homeowner that lived in Sanbornville, NH had been experiencing trouble with water gathering in one corner of their basement. The water would leak in during rainfall and form one large puddle. Tired of dealing with this every time it rained, the homeowner called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems after finding our website online. We set them up with a free estimate from one of our sales representatives and they gave us the green light to begin work on the basement right away.

As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work on the basement. First, a spot in the low point of the floor was excavated to create room for a TripleSafe sump system to be installed. The TripleSafe system houses three pumps inside. The primary and secondary pumps function to remove the bulk of the water gathering on the floor of the basement. The secondary pump will only activate if the primary pump either fails or cannot handle the current amount of water needing to be removed. The third pump functions using a battery and will maintain a dry basement floor even during power-outages in the home. The water flowing through the TripleSafe follows a discharge line up and out of the home.

On the exterior of the home, two additions were made to this discharge line before our crew was finished waterproofing this basement. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment attached just beyond where the line leaves the side of the home. This section of piping has special upward facing holes built in that allow any water trapped within the line to escape. Now if ice or debris blocks the line, the water will be able to exit through the IceGuard without backing up into the basement and causing more flooding. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was used to end the line. The LawnScape terminates through a grate, allow the water to drain away through the ground a distance from the home without allowing debris such as leaves to enter the line and cause blockages.

With these additions properly installed below their home, this homeowner will no longer suffer from a flooding basement during rainfall. Their new TripleSafe sump system will ensure this basement floor stays dry for the future.

ThermalDry Flooring Installation Helps to Finish East Wakefield, NH Basement

Living in East Wakefield, NH, this homeowner wanted to begin to make use of their basement. They wanted to finish it so that they could comfortably spend time in the space. To get this done, they searched online for options and soon found us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. After talking with our office staff, they were set up with a free estimate from one of our sales representatives. The sales rep. took a look at the basement and the homeowner was ready to move forward with the project after being informed about their options.

When our installation crew arrived at the home, their goal was to provide a more comfortable floor than the existing concrete foundation. They installed ThermalDry flooring tiles across the floor of the space. These tiles are topped with a firm plastic layer that will maintain a much higher natural temperature, compared to the cold concrete below. Below this top layer, the ThermalDry rests on a thick foam base. This provides comfort with each step, while small channels built into the foam can allow for any moisture build-up to find its way to the sump and flow out of the home. This will provide the homeowner will the flooring they needed to help complete their basement!

With their new flooring, this homeowner can now move on to furnishing the space to finally finish it. The ThermalDry tiles will ensure the basement stays insulated and dry for years to come!

Enhanced Gutter Shutter Installation in Center Ossipee, NH

A homeowner in Center Ossipee, New Hampshire, reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems seeking a reliable gutter system. With heavy rainfalls common in the area, he was concerned about the long-term effects of water pooling around his home’s foundation. He wanted a solution that could handle the elements while requiring minimal maintenance. After an on-site evaluation, we recommended the Gutter Shutter system. This system not only prevents clogs by keeping out leaves and debris but also ensures rainwater flows efficiently through the gutters and away from the home. Its sturdy construction means it can stand up to the harshest weather conditions, making it ideal for New England’s climate. By directing water away from the foundation, the Gutter Shutter system protects the home from potential damage, such as cracks and leaks that can result from prolonged exposure to moisture.

Our team installed the system with precision, fitting it closely to the home’s roofline. The homeowner was pleased with how well the Gutter Shutter complemented his home’s appearance, as well as the added functionality it provided. After the installation, he expressed appreciation for the peace of mind that comes from knowing his home is now better prepared to handle the elements. With the Gutter Shutter system in place, he can look forward to a safer, drier home environment—one that’s protected against rain for years to come.
