Proper Vapor Barrier Installation Keeps Poland, ME Crawlspace Dry
Challenge
A homeowner living in Poland, ME had noticed a musty smell coming from the crawlspace beneath their home. This was due to moisture leaking into the space and lingering. Unsure how to put an end to this smell, the homeowner contacted us at TC Hafford Basement Systems. We gave them a free estimate and they hired us to get the problem taken care of once and for all!
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they moved straight to the crawlspace to begin work. To keep water from leaking into this space, a vapor barrier needed to be created. This began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the crawlspace. This mat sits just above the floor so that water beneath it can flow to where it can most easily exit the basement through the ground without being able to leave the floor and enter the atmosphere of the space. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the interior of the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls and floor with a thin plastic sheet. This competes the vapor barrier in this crawlspace.
With their vapor barrier in place, this homeowner should notice the musty smell soon fade from their home. The CleanSpace & Drainage Matting will keep this crawlspace dry for years to come!
