Vapor Barrier Installation Protects Little Deer Isle, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A couple living in Little Deer Isle, ME had been dealing with a problem beneath their home. Their crawlspace would always take on water after any rainfall. This water had begun to produce a musty smell in the damp environment which was noticeable from portions of the home. To put an end to this problem before it got worse, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the space right away by giving it a proper vapor barrier to keep the water out. First, we laid a Drainage Matting across the floor of the crawlspace. This mat sits just above the surface of the floor, where it will prevent water from entering the air of the space while allowing water off the floor to flow together and drain away back into the ground. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor with a thin plastic sheet. The CleanSpace liner completes the vapor barrier and will lock out any moisture trying to enter the interior of the space from now on.
With their new vapor barrier in place, this couple will soon notice the musty smell dissipate. The CleanSpace & Drainage Matting will keep this crawlspace dry for many years into the future!
