Damp Long Island, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With Vapor Barrier Installation

Challenge

A homeowner in Long Island, ME was having troubles with the crawlspace beneath their home. Water would leak in during rainfall and this moisture would linger within the space. Tired of the smell and worried about potential water damage, the homeowner sought a solution online. They soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems and knew we were the ones for the job! They gave us a call and we dispatched our team to get to work.

Solution

Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began right away on installing a proper vapor barrier within the crawlspace to keep out moisture. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the space. This mat sits just off the surface to allow for water beneath itself to flow and find a place to drain away through the ground while the mat prevents the water from reaching the air. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor in a thin plastic sheet. Now that the vapor barrier is completed, no more moisture will be able to enter the interior of this space to cause problems for the homeowner.

Now that the water entering the space had been dealt with, it was time to handle the moisture still lingering in the atmosphere of the space, which could still cause problems such as mold growth. To do this, a SaniDry XP dehumidifier was installed within the space. This device pulls in the surrounding air, separating the moisture from it. This collected moisture is then pumped out of the home through a sump already in the home. The dried air is then circulated back into the crawlspace to force damp back toward the SaniDry and continue the process. This will keep the crawlspace full of dry and healthy air.

With these upgrades to their crawlspace, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about any moisture problems taking root beneath their home! The vapor barrier and SaniDry will ensure this space stays dry for years to come!
