Proper Vapor Barrier Protects Leaking Georgetown, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A homeowner living in Georgetown, ME owned a crawlspace which would regularly take on moisture after any rainfall. This water gathering in the crawlspace was starting to create problems for the homeowner. A musty smell emanating from the home was coming from the crawlspace and was a clear sign of mold growth. Wanting their problems dealt with, the homeowner sought a solution. They soon found their answer and called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. To stop outside moisture from entering the space, we needed to place a vapor barrier between the interior of the space and the dirt surroundings. This began with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor, where it holds moisture beneath itself preventing it from reaching the air. The space between the mat and the floor allows the water to continue to flow and find the best place to drain away back into the ground. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace, completing the vapor barrier. Covering the walls and floor, the CleanSpace liner locks out future leaks from any angle, maintaining a dry crawlspace.
With their new vapor barrier in place, this homeowner should notice the musty smell fade away now that no more moisture is able to sustain any mold growth. The Drainage Matting & CleanSpace liner combination will ensure this crawlspace remains dry for many years to come!
