Proper Vapor Barrier Protects Friendship, ME Crawlspace from Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Friendship, ME had a crawlspace beneath their home with no form of vapor barrier in place. This space, however, would regularly take in water from rain or melting snow. This water would build up and cause problems for the homeowner such as a musty smell in the home and mold growth. Needing the space kept dry to eliminate these problems, the homeowner sought a solution to their problem. After a quick internet search, they called us at TC Hafford Basement Systems and arranged to have their crawlspace waterproofed.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. The first thing to be installed in this space was the Drainage Matting. This mat was laid across the floor of the crawlspace, sitting just off the surface. This enables the water to continue to flow and find a place to drain back out of the home without being able to enter the atmosphere within the crawlspace. Next, we finished the vapor barrier installation by encapsulating the space with a CleanSpace Liner. This liner covers all of the walls, as well as the floor with a thin sheet of plastic that locks out future moisture leaks.
With their new vapor barrier installed, this homeowner will notice the musty smell soon fade away, as well as the rest of their moisture problems. The CleanSpace & Drainage Matting combination will ensure this crawlspace remains dry for many years to come!
