Vapor Barrier Installation Protects Sullivan, ME Crawlspace from Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner living in Sullivan, ME was enduring a problem beneath their home. A musty smell was emanating from their crawlspace due to moisture gathering in the space. This was a clear sign of a mold problem taking root in the space. Unsure of how to stop this on their own, the homeowner sought a professional solution. To get the job done the right way, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they were able to go straight into the space to begin work on the solution. In order to protect this crawlspace from outside moisture, a vapor barrier needed to be put in place. To do this, a Drainage Matting was laid across the floor of the space. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor so that any water beneath it is able to flow and drain away through the ground without being able to reach the atmosphere of the space as airborne moisture. Next, to complete the vapor barrier, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This covers all of the walls as well as the floor of the space. The CleanSpace is a thin plastic sheet which locks out moisture, protecting the interior of the space from any moisture that would have attempted to leak inside.
With their proper vapor barrier in place, this homeowner will soon find the musty smell fade away. Without moisture to survive, any mold will die off. The Drainage Matting working together with the CleanSpace will ensure this crawlspace remains dry for many years into the future!
