Proper Vapor Barrier Dries and Protects Guilford, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A homeowner in Guilford, ME had recently begun to notice a musty smell around certain parts of their home. This smell, they soon discovered, was coming from dampness in their crawlspace. Fearful this dampness would worsen, or lead to property damage, the homeowner needed a way to fix it. To get the space waterproofed so that no future leaks could occur, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. To keep water from entering the atmosphere of the space in the future, we needed to install a vapor barrier. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the crawlspace. This mat sits just above the surface of the floor, to allow for the water on the floor to find a place to drain away through the ground while keeping it from reaching the interior of the space. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace, completing the vapor barrier. This liner is composed of a thin plastic which locks out outside moisture, preventing it from entering the interior of the crawlspace from the floor or the walls.
With this new vapor barrier in place, outside moisture will no longer be able to gather in this space to create the musty smell the homeowner was experiencing. Now that the space is dry, it is safe from any future moisture damage that might have occurred.
