CleanSpace Vapor Barrier Protects Pownal, ME Home From Moisture Problems
Challenge
A couple in Pownal, ME began to notice a musty smell coming from beneath their home. With water leaking into their crawlspace, they soon found the smell was coming from there. To have this problem fixed before any more serious water damage occurred, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work down in the crawlspace right away. To begin, the space was graded to level out the working surface and remove any excess debris that would have otherwise gotten in the way. Then, a SmartDrain was installed in the floor of the crawlspace to handle the removal of any water gathering on the surface of the floor. This water would be pumped up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Next, we moved on to the installation of a vapor barrier within this space to protect it against future moisture leaks. This started with a Drainage Matting laid across the floor of the space. This mat sits off the surface of the floor so that any standing water can flow across the floor to find its way out through the sump. Next, a CleanSpace line was used to encapsulate the space and finish the vapor barrier. This liner is composed of a thin sheet of plastic which completely locks out outside moisture from the outside.
With their new vapor barrier in place and a sump to handle water build-up, this home was now protected against future leaks. This crawlspace will now remain dry and odor-free for many years to come!
