Vapor Barrier Protects Sebago, ME Crawlspace From Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner in Sebago, ME had been living with a damp crawlspace for a few months. These conditions were worsening, however, leading the homeowner to come to the conclusion that something needed to be done about it. Needing the problem dealt with soon, and effectively, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have this moisture kept at bay.
Solution
As soon as our industry leading installation crew arrived at the home they were able to head right down into the crawlspace to begin work. We started by removing any debris from the crawlspace floor and grading the surface to level out the floor. Next, a Drainage Matting was laid across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor, where it holds moisture beneath itself while allowing water to continue to flow beneath it and find a way to drain out and away from the home through the dirt floor. With the Drainage Matting in place, half of a vapor barrier was now installed in this crawlspace.
To finish the vapor barrier, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace. This liner covers all of the walls of the space as well as the floor, locking out moisture that might have tried to otherwise leak in. This liner will ensure no new moisture leaks in through the walls or floor. On tops of the completed vapor barrier we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will pull in the air surrounding itself. The moisture within that air is separated and removed from the crawlspace while the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace. This will eliminate the existing moisture altogether.
With the new vapor barrier and dehumidifier installed in this basement, this homeowner will no longer need to suffer with a damp, smelly crawlspace. The CleanSpace liner will keep out moisture for many years to come!
