Protecting Calais, ME Crawlspace from Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner of Calais, ME was living with a damp crawlspace beneath their home. This hadn’t troubled the homeowner until a musty smell started to spread from the space. This was a sign of a mold problem, which the homeowner did not want to spread throughout their home. To put an end to the problem before it got any worse the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, it was clear what needed to be done to stop future moisture problems. The space needed a vapor barrier put in place to stop leakage. A Drainage Matting was laid across the floor first to hold moisture on the floor beneath it. The mat also allows moisture to flow around and find the easiest location to drain away through. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the crawlspace, tightly covering all of the walls and the floor. This finishes the vapor barrier, locking out any outside moisture from reaching the interior of the space. This will eliminate the mold problem now that no more moisture can enter.
With a proper vapor barrier in place, this homeowner can now rest assured their crawlspace mold problem has been dealt with. With the vapor barrier holding back moisture, the musty smell has been completely eliminated. No more mold can grow without any moisture to sustain it.
