Standish, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With CleanSpace Liner

Challenge

A homeowner in Standish, ME had been having trouble keeping their crawlspace clear of moisture. Without a vapor barrier in place, water would leak in through the dirt surroundings. To put and end to this leakage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once our crew arrived at the home, they started work on the crawlspace by installing a proper vapor barrier to hold the water out. To start this, they laid a Drainage Matting across the floor. This is a mat which allows for water to flow beneath it, without letting that water enter the air above. This allows for trapped water to drain away over time. Next, to finish the vapor barrier, the crew encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace is a thin sheet of plastic which covers all of the walls, as well as the floor, completely locking out any outside moisture.

To finish this crawlspace, we needed to remove any of the existing moisture from the air. To capture the airborne moisture, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding moist air and separate the moisture from it. The collected water exits the home through a drain, while the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace. This circulation creates a cycle, pulling more moist air back toward the SaniDry for more moisture removal. This continues until the crawlspace is perfectly dry and healthy.

With a vapor barrier in place, and a SaniDry keeping the air dry, this crawlspace should not become moist again for quite some time! Any issues such as water damage, or mold growth are no longer a concern for this Standish, ME homeowner.
