CleanSpace Liner Protects York, MECrawlspace From Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner in York, ME had begun to notice a musty smell coming from their crawlspace. With water able to build up in the space, there was nothing the homeowner could do to stop the smell. Wanting this problem dealt with as soon as possible, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, the first order of business was to re-grade the dirt floor. This leveled out the dirt surface, removing any debris that would have been in the way. Now that the dirt was level and out of the way, we installed a vapor barrier to hold moisture out of the space. The space was encapsulated with a CleanSpace liner, which covers the floor and walls with a thin plastic sheet. This liner will completely lock out any and all moisture that would have otherwise leaked into this crawlspace to cause problems.
Beneath the CleanSpace liner, we had installed a SuperSump sump pump into the floor. This pump will take in any moisture from the surface of the dirt, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water out and away from the home, depositing onto the ground. Finally, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to pull the moisture out of the air within the crawlspace. The moisture is passed to the SuperSump for removal and the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace.
With the new vapor barrier in place and a sump for water-removal, this homeowner will no longer need to suffer from a musty smell. The CleanSpace liner will maintain a dry interior to this crawlspace for years to come!
