East Winthrop, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With Vapor Barrier
Challenge
Noticing a musty smell emanating throughout their home, a homeowner in East Winthrop knew it was time to deal with the moisture problem in their crawlspace. Without any barrier in place, the space was practically open to outside moisture. To get the space waterproofed the right way, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. To start on this crawlspace, the crew gave the water a way to drain out and away from the space by installing a SmartSump pump in the floor. After this pump was in place, we began the installation of a proper vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This matting will keep moisture from leaving the floor to enter the air, while still leaving enough space beneath it to allow for water to flow to the sump. This mat completed half of the vapor barrier needed to keep this space dry.
Next, the crew finished the vapor barrier by encapsulating the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner seals all of the walls, as well as the floor, containing any moisture that would have otherwise found its way into the interior of the space. With the CleanSpace installed, the vapor barrier was done, and keeping this crawlspace free of any moisture from the surrounding soil. Now to keep the air free of moisture, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This will keep the air dry by taking in the damp air and separating the moisture from it. The dried air is then circulated back into the space while the water is passed to the SmartSump for removal.
Now that this homeowner has a proper vapor barrier in place and a system to remove moisture, their moisture problems will fade very soon. Thanks to the CleanSpace, this home should remain dry for many years to come!
