Sunset, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With Proper Vapor Barrier

Challenge

No homeowner wants a wet crawlspace. After dealing with one for several years, this homeowner in Sunset, ME decided they had had enough. To finally have the space properly waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Without a vapor barrier in place to keep out moisture, any water in the surrounding soil could easily slip into this crawlspace and cause problems. To put an end to these problems, we needed to installed barrier in between the interior of the crawlspace and the outside soil. To start this, we laid a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will help hold moisture beneath itself, while still allowing some space for the water to flow across the floor. This will allow the water to find a way to drain out and away from the home without being kept in the space helping mold grow.

With the Drainage Matting in place, that was half the vapor barrier complete. To finish the installation, our crew encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This is a thin plastic sheet that covers all of the walls as well as the floor. Completing the vapor barrier, the CleanSpace will lock out any moisture that would have otherwise leaked into this crawlspace. Now no mold can prosper in this space, and any existing will die off very soon.

With the new vapor barrier in place, this homeowners’ crawlspace will no longer suffer from moisture related problems. Now this space will remain dry and healthy for years to come.
