Port Clyde, ME Crawlspace Protected From The Elements With CleanSpace

Challenge

A homeowner in Port Clyde, ME owned a crawlspace that was becoming a problem. This space would regularly take on water after any rainfall, which would then build up under the home. This was starting to spread a musty smell, which the homeowner wanted stopped right away. To have this space protected the right way, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford crew arrived at the home, they began work on the space right away. Since water was coming in through the dirt walls and floor of this space, it was going to need a vapor barrier to hold back the moisture. The crew started by laying down a Drainage Matting across the floor of the crawlspace. This will hold some of the moisture beneath itself while still allowing room for the water to flow around. This will help by letting the moisture drain away through the sump. Finishing the vapor barrier, the crew encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This liner, covering all of the walls as well as the floor, will completely lock out moisture, keeping it out of the interior of the crawlspace.

With the ground moisture dealt with, it was time to handle the moisture within the atmosphere within the crawlspace. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding air, separating the moisture from it. The dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace, while the water is handed off to the sump for removal. Now it was time to install a new sump in this crawlspace to help with water removal. To take on this job, the crew installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can remove over 2,600 gallons of water every hour from the crawlspace, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The water is then carried away from the home and deposited onto the ground where it safely drains away.

With the new vapor barrier in place, and SaniDry keeping the air dry, this homeowners moisture problem in a thing of the past. This crawlspace is now protected for many years into the future!
