Walpole, ME Crawlspace Protected From Moisture With Vapor Barrier

Challenge

A homeowner in Walpole, ME had been having trouble with their crawlspace. Due to moisture build-up, a smell had begun to propagate into the home. This wasn’t something the homeowner would put up with. They soon called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the space waterproofed properly.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crawlspace right away. In order to keep out moisture, the space was going to need a vapor barrier put in. To start this, we laid down a Drainage Matting which will help keep water out of the air, while giving the water beneath itself enough room to flor and drain away. Finishing the vapor barrier, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner covers the walls of the space, as well as the floor. This thin plastic sheet completely locks out moisture trying to enter from the surrounding ground.

With the moisture in the surrounding soil dealt with, we then needed to handle the moisture in the atmosphere of the space. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This will take the moisture out of the air and pump this water out of the home. This will ensure any mold trying to grow will be stopped before it spreads. Finally, outside the home, our crew placed four Vent Covers over the entrances to the crawlspace. These block airflow, as well as moisture. This added another layer of protection to the crawlspace.

These new installments will ensure this Walpole, ME crawlspace remains dry. Now this homeowner no longer needs to deal with the unpleasant smell of a damp crawlspace.
