Damp Crawlspace In Patten, ME Protected With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in Patten, ME owned a rather damp crawlspace. With dirt walls and a dirt floor, it was no surprise that this space would take on water after any amount of rainfall. Looking to have the space waterproofed, and eliminate the possibility for mold growth, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, they began right away with the installation of a proper vapor barrier to protect this space from the moisture in the surrounding soil. They started by laying down a Drainage Matting across the floor of the crawlspace. This layer holds moisture beneath it, preventing the water on the floor from evaporating up into the air within the space. This will help reduce the humidity and help eliminate potential mold growth. The Drainage Matting also is built in a way where it is partially elevated off the floor. This gives the water room to flow, allowing it to find its own natural drain back into the ground.
With the Drainage Matting in place, we could move on to the second step in waterproofing this crawlspace. To finish the vapor barrier, and protect the crawlspace for good, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner covers all of the walls, as well as the floor, over the Drainage Matting. The CleanSpace is a thin sheet of plastic which completely locks out moisture, preventing and dampness penetrating into the interior of the crawlspace. This will ensure no more moisture will be able to feed the growth of mold, protecting the crawlspace.
Now that this homeowner has had a proper vapor barrier installed, their crawlspace will remain dry and healthy. They no longer need to worry about mold growth, or any musty smells anymore.
