Moist Georgetown, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With CleanSpace
Challenge
A couple in Georgetown, ME had a crawlspace that was becoming a problem. This space regularly took on water after any rainfall. This moisture would either pool up on the floor, or enter the air, where it was spreading a musty smell throughout the home. To have this moisture problem stopped, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began work right away installing a vapor barrier within the crawlspace. Without a barrier there before, any moisture could enter easily with no resistance. Starting this, we laid a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will help keep moisture out of the air, while giving the water on the floor room to flow, allowing it to find a better spot to drain back into the ground. The vapor barrier was finished with a CleanSpace encapsulation. This is a thin plastic sheet which covers all walls, as well as the floor of the crawlspace. This complete vapor barrier locks out any future moisture seeking to reside within this crawlspace.
Now that no more moisture will be entering through the surrounding soil, it was time to deal with the dampness in the air. This could still be enabling the growth of mold, which might even be causing the smell. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding air and separate the moisture from it. The now dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace, where it will force more damp air back towards the SaniDry. Any collected moisture is removed from the home through a PVC discharge line, where it is deposited outside.
With a barrier in place and a dehumidifier in place, these homeowners will never have moisture problems in this crawlspace again! No moisture will be getting passed the CleanSpace.
