Leaking Naples, ME Crawlspace Sealed With Proper Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A homeowner in Naples, ME owned a crawlspace which would take on water after any rainfall. These conditions were causing a smell to form, which was a problem for this homeowner since the smell emanated into parts of the home. To put an end to this, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the space immediately. The first step to waterproofing this space was to lay a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat is supported by bumps, which create a gap between the mat and the floor. This space allows any water underneath to shift into a position to drain away into the dirt while preventing it from evaporating into the atmosphere. To complete the vapor barrier, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This overlays the floor as well as all of the walls to lock out moisture and maintain a moisture free space.
Now that no more moisture will be leaking in from the surrounding soil, it was time to deal with the existing moisture. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier on the floor of the space. This device will take in the surrounding air and remove any moisture from it. The dried air is circulated back into the space while the water is passed to a Condensate Pump for removal. Here the water is pushed out of the home through a discharge line. This will keep the air dry and healthy, eliminating any smell.
With their new vapor barrier in place, and the dehumidifier active, this homeowners’ problem is now a thing of the past. No smell will be able to form without a damp environment.
