Effingham, NH Crawlspace Kept Dry With New Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A homeowner in Effingham, NH owned a property with a rather damp crawlspace. The space seemed to always be moist, taking in water through the dirt surroundings. To have the crawlspace protected from moisture build up, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Our crew began working right as they got to the home. To keep the crawlspace free of water build-up, the space would need a way to drain the water as well as a proper barrier put in place. After removing some debris, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the natural low-point of the floor. This will take in any water on the surface and remove it from the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump is powerful enough to keep this space completely water-free. It can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour.
Outside the home, we attached two key pieces to the discharge line. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment which has holes built into it. These holes will not affect normal water flow. They will, however, allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if the line becomes blocked by ice or other debris. The water finally exits this line through a LawnScape discharge point on the end. Here, the water will no longer be able to reach the home to cause any further trouble.
Now our crew began the installation of a proper vapor barrier. The first step was laying down a Drainage Matting across the floor of the space. This mat has space beneath itself to allow water to continue to flow to the sump, while helping to hold back the moisture from reaching the interior of the space. We then encapsulated the crawlspace in a CleanSpace liner. This liner covers all four walls, as well as the floor. This layer completely locks out moisture trying to enter the atmosphere of the space, maintaining a dry crawlspace.
With these new installations in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about the moisture beneath their home. Mold and other moisture related problems are no longer a threat with CleanSpace in place!
