Fryeburg, ME Crawlspace Waterproofed With Proper Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A homeowner in Fryeburg, ME had been living with a musty smell for several months. The damp crawlspace causing the smell had been giving the homeowner trouble, them being unable to keep the space dry. To get the job done right, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began right away working on the crawlspace. To start the project, the space was graded flat. This cleared away some debris, while leveling out the space to make working with it easier. We then installed a SmartDrain in the floor of the space. This will take in the water gathering on the floor, and give it a way to drain out of the crawlspace. This water will be carried away from the home through a PVC discharge line.
Next, to keep moisture from entering the atmosphere within the space, we installed a vapor barrier. To do this, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This thin plastic sheet covers all of the walls as well as the floor. This locks out moisture, keeping it from causing any further problems in the space. We then finished this project by installing a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will take in the damp air, and remove the moisture. The water is then passed to the SmartDrain for removal, while the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace. This will dry all of the air within the space after a short period of time.
With these products in place, this homeowner should no longer need to put up with a musty smell emanating from their crawlspace. Moisture problems are a thing of the past for this Fryeburg, ME home.
