Warren, ME Crawlspace Waterproofed With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in Warren, ME had been having trouble with moisture collecting in their crawlspace. With a large opening for moisture to enter through, and a dirt floor, it was easy for any water to gather there. To have the space waterproofed the right way, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, our crew began work on the crawlspace by grading the floor. This flattened out the space, while removing some debris. This gave us a level surface to work with while keeping the work area clear. We then started the installation of a vapor barrier by laying down a Drainage Matting. This matting covers the floor, sealing moisture beneath itself. This mat has enough space for the water beneath itself to continue to shift, allowing the water to find the easiest point to drain away while being kept from reaching the interior of the crawlspace.
With the Drainage Matting in place, the vapor barrier was half done. We finished the vapor barrier by encapsulating the space with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace is a thin plastic sheet which completely blocks out water. Covering all four walls as well as the floor, the CleanSpace is sure to lock out any moisture trying to enter the atmosphere within the space. Once the vapor barrier was finished, we installed four Vent Covers over each of the entry points to the crawlspace. These had been open, and were an easy entry point for moisture and pests. With the new covers in place, they will be impenetrable to water or pests.
With a new vapor barrier and covers over the vents, this homeowners’ crawlspace will no longer be perpetually damp. They now no longer need to worry about any form of water damage in the space.
