West Enfield, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in West Enfield, ME had been having trouble with their crawlspace. Water would leak in, and this was beginning to cause a nasty smell. Needing to put an end to this, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, we inspected the crawlspace to see what could be done. This crawlspace was in desperate need of a proper vapor barrier. We began this by laying down a Drainage Matting across the floor. This acts as an initial barrier to hole back moisture, and it allows any water trapped beneath itself to flow and drain away freely. After this was in place, we installed Wrap Piers around the support pillars in the space. These will also act as a barrier, keeping the crawlspace free of moisture that might accumulate on or around these pillars.
To finish the vapor barrier, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This liner is made of a thin plastic which completely seals out moisture, maintaining a dry surface within the crawlspace. After the vapor barrier was finished, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will take in the moist air within the crawlspace, and remove the moisture. The collected moisture is piped out of the home, while the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace. This newly dried air will clear up and smell forming within the space.
Now that this crawlspace has a vapor barrier in place, no more moisture will be gathering in the space. Without any moisture, the homeowner will no longer need to put up with a musty smell!
