Seal Harbor, ME Crawlspace Given Proper Vapor Barrier With CleanSpace
Challenge
A homeowner in Seal Harbor, ME owned a crawlspace which would regularly take on water. Whether it was rain or melting snow, this crawlspace seemed to always be damp. To remedy the dampness problem, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The first thing we needed to do to keep this basement water-free was to give the water a place to go. We achieved this by installing a SmartDrain piping system. This sits in the low-point of the floor, and collects the water that naturally flows to that point. This water drains away and exits the home. We then covered the floor with a Drainage Matting. This mat both holds the water beneath it, and allows the water to continue to flow. This helps keep moisture out of the air while giving the water freedom to exit through the SmartDrain. This was the first half of the vapor barrier completed.
Next, we needed to finish the vapor barrier. To do this, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This will lock out moisture, preventing it from entering through the walls as well as fortifying the floor. With the vapor barrier in place, moisture will no longer be entering from the walls or floor. Finally, we needed to deal with the airborne moisture lingering in the space. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This machine will take in the air from its surroundings, and remove any moisture in the air. This moisture is deposited into the SmartDrain for removal, and the dry air is circulated back into the space.
This completes this Seal Harbor, ME crawlspace. The homeowner should never need to deal with a damp crawlspace again while living in this home.
