East Boothbay, ME Receives Proper Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A homeowner in East Boothbay, ME had been putting up with an unpleasant smell coming from their crawlspace. Tired of this, they were looking for a solution to their wet crawlspace problem. After their search, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems because they knew we were the right choice.
Solution
Once our crew arrived on the scene, it was apparent that we needed to give this space a vapor barrier to keep the moisture out. We began by laying down a Drainage Matting across the floor of the space. This matting will hold the water beneath itself, while allowing it to drain away into the soil. We then encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner completely locks out any moisture trying to leak into the space. This will ensure no more moisture troubles this homeowner from the outside.
With no more moisture entering from the outside, we now needed to deal with the moisture in the air. This moisture could still cause problems, such as a continued must smell, or even mold growth which could negatively affect the homeowners’ health. To keep the space completely moisture-free, even in the air, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the moist air from around the crawlspace, and pull the water out of it. The collected water is then removed from the home through a drainage pipe. The dried air then circulates back into the crawlspace, forcing more moist air back toward the SaniDry. This cycle continues until the crawlspace is completely free of moisture.
With their vapor barrier in place and a dehumidifier keeping the air clean, this crawlspace should no longer bother the homeowner. Moisture will no longer stand a chance against the new barrier.
