CleanSpace Seals Moisture Out of Mount Vernon, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
Unable to keep up with a growing moisture problem in their Mount Vernon, ME crawlspace, this couple needed help. Without a proper vapor barrier, they were susceptible to water damage and mold growth. To finally have one installed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
This crawlspace was not only lacking a vapor barrier, but it was also lacking insulation too. To remedy both of these, we began by insulating the rim joists with Spray Foam. This foam fills the gaps, and then hardens to seal in the atmosphere. This took care of the insulation problem, so we moved on to beginning the vapor barrier. We laid a Drainage Matting across the crawlspace floor. This holds back moisture, keeping it out of the air while allowing it drain away back into the soil.
With the initial installations done, it was time to finish off this crawlspace. To complete the vapor barrier, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This line is made of plastic, which water can never pass through. This completely seals off the interior of the space from the outside moisture. Without further moisture collecting in the atmosphere, we now needed to remove the existing moisture. We installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to do just this. The SaniDry takes in the moist air from around the space, and removes the water. While the water exits the space through a pipe, the dried air is circulated back into the crawlspace.
With their new vapor barrier in place and a dry atmosphere, this crawlspace is now safe from moisture problems. These homeowners can rest assured no amount of rain will cause any issues in their crawlspace.
