CleanSpace Protects Mechanic Falls, ME Crawlspace From Moisture

Challenge

A homeowner in Mechanic Falls, ME had concerns his crawlspace might need work. It was almost always damp, and was very poorly insulated. To remedy this, the homeowner called the experts at TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done!

Solution

To fix this crawlspace, a couple of products were needed. First, we gave any standing water a place to exit through by installing a SmartDrain in the natural low-point of the space. This would carry the water out and away from the home. Next, we gave the space proper insulation. We used Spray Foam on in the rim joists to achieve this. Once it has been sprayed and taken shape, the foam will harden and form an excellent layer of insulation.

Now that the water has an exit, and the insulation problem had been taken care of, it was time to give the crawlspace a proper vapor barrier. This will keep the moisture from affecting the interior of the space in a negative way. We started this barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat is built in a way to hold water beneath itself while allowing that water to flow towards the SmartDrain. This keeps some moisture from entering the atmosphere. To finish the barrier, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner covers all of the walls as well as the floor. This completely locks out moisture, maintaining atmosphere within the crawlspace.

With all of these products in place, moisture should no longer gather within this home, and this homeowner will save money in the future with the better insulation.
