Whiting, ME Crawlspace Waterproofed With CleanSpace
Challenge
Without a proper vapor barrier, any crawlspace is susceptible to water related problems. These can range from damage to the structure of the home, or mold growth. Needing a vapor barrier installed in their own crawlspace, this Whiting, ME homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived, we saw this space was not only unprotected from water, but it was also poorly insulated. To correct this, we used Spray Foam to fill the rim joist of the crawlspace. This foam will hold in the interior temperature of the home without allowing the outside to cause any change. This new insulation should help the homeowner maintain their preferred temperature in both winter and summer months. We then started the vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor of the space. This mat holds moisture beneath it, while allowing it to drain away back into the soil. This way the moisture coming in through the floor can no longer rise up into the atmosphere of the crawlspace and cause problems.
To finish the vapor barrier and fully protect the crawlspace from outside moisture, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This line is made of plastic, which water cannot pass through. Covering all of the walls, as well as the floor, this liner locks out moisture, preventing it from further gathering in the crawlspace. Finally, we completed this job by installing a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier in the crawlspace. The SaniDry will take on the job of pulling the moisture out of the air in the crawlspace. This eliminates the likelihood of mold growth by removing the living conditions which usually allow mold to spread. The water collected in the SaniDry is then pumped outside where it will no longer be able to cause problems for this homeowner.
With a vapor barrier in place and a dehumidifier keeping the air dry, this crawlspace will no longer suffer from moisture related problems. This homeowner can now rest assured they will have no mold growth and they are safe from water damage.
