CleanSpace Keeps Waterford, ME Crawlspace Moisture-Free
Challenge
A homeowner in Waterford, ME was having trouble with moisture gathering in their crawlspace. This moisture could enter rather easily through the dirt surroundings, and needed to be stopped. To achieve a waterproofed crawlspace, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The space was not only susceptible to moisture, but it was also poorly insulated. This means that during the winter, heat radiates away from the home very easily from here. Before we could waterproof the space, the insulation was going to be addressed first. To do so, we used Spray Foam to cover parts of the walls and fill the rim joists. This foam will greatly increase the insulation of this space, holding in heat significantly better. We then began the waterproofing process by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor of the space. The Drainage Matting will keep water on the floor underneath itself. Preventing it from entering the atmosphere, and giving it time to drain away without causing any problems.
To assist the Drainage Matting in keeping moisture out, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner gives the crawlspace a proper vapor barrier. Being made of a thin plastic, the CleanSpace locks out moisture, preventing it from reaching the atmosphere of the crawlspace. Any water is then gathered underneath the Drainage Matting where it drains away, out of the crawlspace. We finished this job by installing a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This dehumidifier will remove any moisture built up in the air, and keep the air dry.
This homeowner is now protected from any moisture related problems within their crawlspace, such as mold growth or water damage to the structure of the home. They also now have proper insulation in place to help them in colder months.
