Damp Palmyra, ME Crawlspace Given Proper CleanSpace Barrier

Challenge

A damp crawlspace can lead to several problems. Mold growth can cause health concerns for the residents of the home, and permanent water damage can occur. A homeowner in Palmyra, ME wanted to get their space waterproofed before any of this happened. They called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done!

Solution

To begin the waterproofing of the crawlspace, we needed to re-grade the floor of the space to level it out. The dirt floor then received a SmartDrain to take in the water and guide it out of the home. Attached to this drain, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to keep the crawlspace free of airborne moisture. The SaniDry will cycle through the air until the atmosphere within the space is dry and healthy. The water collected in the SaniDry is handed to the SmartDrain to be removed from the crawlspace.

We then needed to give the crawlspace a proper barrier to prevent moisture from entering through the soil. We began the installation of the barrier by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor of the crawlspace. This matting holds any moisture beneath it, allowing it to drain away either back through the soil or through the SmartDrain. The entire space was then encapsulated with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace covers all of the walls, as well as the floor. This forms an impassable barrier that locks out moisture, keeping the interior of the basement free of moisture coming through the soil.

This homeowner can now rest assured no moisture problems will come to their crawlspace. The new vapor barrier will be sure to keep and water at bay.
