Canaan, ME Crawlspace Receives Much Needed Vapor Barrier
Challenge
Ronald of Canaan, ME was experiencing moisture troubles with his crawlspace. He wanted this problem taken care of before any negative effects began to make themselves apparent. Lacking the necessary tools to do this himself, he called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the job!
Solution
Once our crew arrived, it was obvious why this crawlspace was experiencing moisture problems. There was no vapor barrier in place. To begin the waterproofing process, we needed to give the water somewhere to go. We installed a SmartDrain in the natural low point of the crawlspace. This way, any water gathering will flow into the drain and exit the space. Next, to keep in heat, and help insulate the home, we applied Spray Foam to the upper edge of the walls around the joists. This will better hold in heat, saving the homeowner money.
Now that the water had an exit point and the Spray Foam was in place, our crew could begin work on the vapor barrier. First, they laid a Drainage Matting on the floor, covering the dirt surface. This will trap any moisture underneath itself and give it time to drain away without allowing it to infringe upon the space. Finally, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace Liner. This lining is composed of plastic, and is a great way to lock out moisture. Any moisture slipping in through the surrounding soil will never be able to leak in through the CleanSpace to affect the crawlspace.
With the proper products in place, this crawlspace is now fully waterproofed! Now this homeowner can rest assured, they no longer need to worry about water damage or mold growth.
