CleanSpace Seals Moisture Out Of Searsport, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A wet crawlspace can pose several problems to a homeowner. These problems can range from damage to the structure of the home, to health concerns for occupants of the home. This homeowner in Searsport, ME wanted to address their wet crawlspace problem before it became a serious issue.
Solution
After TC Hafford Basement Systems received the call, we were on the job. We first sent our representative to investigate the crawlspace, to identify the source of the moisture and give the homeowner a free estimate. Once we knew what needed to be done, our crew could get to work. This crawlspace lacked a vapor barrier, so to begin, we laid a Drainage Matting down within the crawlspace, covering the floor. This would be the first layer of the vapor barrier. The Drainage Matting acts as an insulator between the surface of the floor and the interior of the space. Any moisture trapped between is held there until it drains away back into the soil; This moisture will no longer affect the crawlspace.
Next, to complete the vapor barrier, we needed to encapsulate the space. To achieve this, we used a CleanSpace Liner. This liner covers the floor, as well as all of the walls. The CleanSpace is made of a thin plastic, which water is unable to pass through. This locks out moisture, keeping the interior of the space mostly moisture-free. To ensure this space doesn’t grow any mold due to a moist atmosphere, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. The SaniDry will now take any moisture out of the air, and disperse dry, healthy air throughout the crawlspace. Without any moisture on the surfaces or in the air, mold doesn’t stand a chance!
With a vapor barrier in place and a dehumidifier keeping moisture levels to a minimum, this homeowner can rest assure their moisture problems have been solved.
